I love that picture! I took it myself from front row center. Big Grin He was performing at a 'prom party' sponsored by a local radio station. It was an 80s retro thing, so everyone was in prom dresses listening to 80s music. What a great time! It was that event where I came up with the story for my Prom Night fic. Wink

And yes, like a fine wine, Jordan has improved with age. Wink

I attended my 20-year high school reunion this summer, and I can say that some of the men looked better, some looked worse and some were about the same -in roughly equal proportions. One guy was definitely in the "better" camp; he had looked good in high school, but now his hobby is doing iron man triathlons -naturally I had to talk to him for a long time and let him tell me all about this!

Did you wear your prom dress, TJ?

Um, no. In fact, I don't even remember what it looked like. I was quite the homely social loser in high school (it didn't help going to an all-girls school) and I had to be set up by my Mom with a blind date for my Grade 13 Formal. It was kind of a bad evening all around, so the les I remember the better.

I did, however, wear one of my formal dresses. I have a few that I use when we go on cruises. Most people were dressed in formalwear of some kind.

I was a shy, homely geek in high school (well, I've since improved some in two areas -definitely still a geek though) and would never have attended my prom except my older sister's boyfriend offered to be my "date." He was 25! But, he only looked about 20, and no one at my high school knew who he was. He was just like an older brother to me, except nicer than my actual older brother.

Lucky you!!
I never attended my school prom. No one even considered inviting me (that I know of.) I was very much an outcast and loaner in school.
(I still have not decided if that was a good thing or not.)

It's ok, CD! I didn't go to my high school prom either. Everyone told me I would regret not going, but to tell you the truth, to this day, I still don't regret not going!

Truthfully, I do not regret not going either. If I had gone I probably would have ended up sitting on the sidelines wondering what I was doing there, and having no one to talk to.

That being said I did not attend my high school reunion either, for the exact same reason, even though I would have loved to see what some of my classmates are doing these days.

I've attended both reunions that my graduating class has had -15 year and 20 year. I was reluctant to attend the 15 year one, but once I was actually there, it was a chance to exorcise old demons and realize that I no longer gave a crap about what anyone there thought of me, and all sorts of people kept turning out to be much nicer and more interesting than I ever remembered them being in high school!

Of my siblings, I am the only one who attended their high school prom, which is the last thing anyone would have predicted -my brother didn't go to his because he was out of town, joining the Canadian Air Force, and my sister didn't go to hers because her then-boyfriend decided at the last minute that he was too cool to attend a prom and they just went to a party instead.

Dear all,

Unlike the culture in the western, we do not really have a prom night event here at the end of academic year. We do have something like a simple farewell party after the graduation day, but this was usually organised by individual classes and will be held at external venues rather than in the school auditorium. The party is also optional, and some classes may decide not to held any parties at all.

However, high-school reunion is indeed very popular at my place, and is usually held every 5 years, so we will have a 5-year reunion party, 10-year reunion party, and so on.

To tell you the truth, the reason why high-school reunion is very popular event here is because of one main reason,MONEY. The successful people will love to show off his/her successful careers, businesses, etc, and the less-successful people will actually come to the reunion to share their "oh pity me" stories, and then, get this, will actually ask for money from the more successful ones. This also applies to teachers, who will also actually try to sponge off of their ex-students, how classy, Nono2 , and that is the main reason why I have always tried my best to avoid from attending any reunions.

I did however attend the 10-year reunion party after much persuasions from my friends, and other than the above problem, I actually found myself enjoying the party. Many funny and amusing stories were shared, and it was kinda cute to see the many changes that people have undergone in 10 years.

Many of my old friends were shocked to see that I still looked the same like I did 10 years ago (I am not sure whether to take it as a compliment or not, I mean, some of my plain-looking friends in high school had by then transformed into extremely gorgeous people, so to look the same like you did 10 years ago could not actually be considered as an accomplishment, Smile )

They were even more shocked to know that me, a former troublemaker in my class, would turn out to be a college lecturer, but hey, despite my troublemaker nature, I am always a nerd at heart, and I could not be happier with my choice of career now, Smile!
