These were my first attempts at writing and they weren't that technically strong (awkward sentences, tense shifts, stiff dialogue, that sort of thing).

Anyway, I wrote the first chapter of a series that had street level heroes (Spider-Man, Daredevil, Power Man and Iron Fist, and a few others) fighting a brutal crime wave with the Kingpin and a few other characters. The idea was I write the first issue and the other writers would finish the series doing an issue each. Course that never did happen but that's another story. Wink

So I get an anonymous letter that "critique" my story. The guy tore it into shreds. He didn't leave anything standing. He attacked my story on the technical writing side of things, the story itself and related characterization and everything in between. When I read that hate filled letter I was flabbergasted. I never expected to receive anything that nasty from a story. Once I calmed down, I wrote a detailed reply to the letter and where the writer had legitimate complaints, I thanked him for the help. Course in the sections where he didn't have a clue what he was talking about - I called him on it and gave as good as I got. Smile I realized I learnt a lot from that email and it helped improve my writing.

That should be the end of the story but as it turned out, the mailing list dedicated to the Marvel Universe group was getting some nasty email as well. As it turns out this guy was angry for being turned away from the writing group. He took his jealousy out on a few writers, myself included. The thing I learnt was not to listen to the rantings of an idiot. I decided that I would learn as much as I could about my craft but anything else said isn't important. I learnt to grow a thicker skin. Wink It's a skill all creative people have to learn when displaying their work to the public. Jazzman Bonkers3

Geez, Tim, that's so true. I only post my ficcies on FF.net where peple seem more friendly. I never got any flame or discouraging reviews. Well, mostly because most of the readers are kids my age and they don't pay attention to the technical side.

As for telling me I'm writting crap, well it wouldn't bother me; I write fanfic as an outlet for my Gatch obsession!

Although I have notice the writers of gatch fics tend to be of the "older" crowd. Very few youngsters know the show from what I gather.
Although with the release of the movie that may change.

She gazed into the flames at the evil person standing on the other side of a bonfire holding the flame thrower in their hands, the flamer snarled...but the Swan slowly turned up the corners of her lips confidently and boldly pulled out her pen and paper...Defiantly she looked through the leaping bonfire at her enemy...the flamer, the one who started the bonfire in the first place... as the flamer stood there with her latest work and the demon was about to throw it onto the flames...

"Do you really think you can stop me with that pathetic attempt at a review...?" The Swan cocked an eyebrow at her opponent and challenged the flamer through the flickering red hot flames, pen poised in position to write her next epic novel...

oppps got carried away again...sigh.

You ladies should step back, and let me take care of him.

:: The crowd fell silent as Toneman stepped forward, approaching the flamer. The flamer pulls the trigger, and Toneman dashes around the fireburst. He grabs the flamers face, and shoves his head through the wall. The sheet rock collapses around the flamer's head, and Toneman pulls him from the hole. He causually tosses him into the fire, like the peice of trash he is. Toneman pulls out his pistol, and pulls the trigger. The burning man's kneecap explodes in a splatter of blood, and the flamer howls even louder.

Toneman bows low to the ladies::

"I believe you know what to do with him now, Swans..."
And then he was gone from them...

The Swan looks at Tone in and the Eagle standing beside him, Tone looks over at his squad leader RI who is watching his boy closely as the Eagle casually strides over to his Swan."It's OK darling...I won't let that flamer near you ever again." He puts his arms around her and leans into kiss her.

"Son, ahhh...ummm Gatchaman I meant... you won't ever win this war if you go getting involved with women," and RI punches the Eagle in the face, as he stands over his son he mutters"I thought I'd taken care of that Swan," The Swan now knows who the flamer is...

He is one of the squadron. Not RI himself.
Although at times I think he is not sure himself. Stretch

Not on this board, Cep. We know that you've got the bugs worked out here. No worries. Big Grin

Julieann is still doing a lot of work on the GFF site; has anyone mentioned the rating thing to her? We probably should if nobody has. She can't fix it if she doesn't know! Smile
