--- Nikkatsu's Live Action Gatch movie (http://www.gatchamania.net/threadid.php?threadid=4157)
I'd be happy but very surprised if it aired, subtitled, in movie theaters in North America. Sure, many foreign-language films do, but I'm not sure Nikkatsu, or a North American distributor, would think there's a big enough audience here for a Japanese-language Gatchaman movie to justify it. Granted, Imagi's CGI version looked to be intended for a theatrical release in North America, but it was in English whereas it's been my perception that a lot of people aren't as keen to go see subtitled movies (especially with kids). That said, I'm sure it will become available to buy on DVD, though probably first only in Japan, and solely in Japanese.
But I hold out hope that Nikkatsu will do a DVD version with English subtitles -at the very least, someone, somewhere, will surely do an English fansub eventually, and such things have a way of turning up on Ebay and such places...
Nikkatsu did a Japanese only live action version of Yatterman, and I was able to get a DVD with English subtitles (from China) via Amazon about 6 months after it was released in theatres in Japan. I'm hoping for the same thing with the Gatchaman movie.

That was the information I was looking for, or wondering about. How long after the release might we be able to get our hands on a subtitled DVD version. Thank you TJ and LB for your helpful information.

Here's to hoping for a subbed version somewhere being available. My wish is, with Gatch, and its subsequent versions being so widely available, that a that would be the case. I mean, c'mon...they were going to make an animated version of it up until the studio folded....
Also too, did anyone else happen to notice that they've spelled out I. S. O on the uniforms, rather than Japanese characters? Fingers crossed for small things.
...and Jun's mini dress really is kinda a shame though. Canon or not, it is the 21st century, folks.

GG, it will be out in Japan in August, but I would not expect to see it in North America for at least 6 months after that on DVD. Well maybe by Christmas ... if we are lucky. And then we will have to watch with subtitles because it will be in Japanese or one of the other East Asian languages.

I honestly could not guess. I am not even sure if I would be able to get it here in Canada.
I will probably have to wait until I can get someone in the States to purchase it for me and then get it to me when I am at the Con the following year.
If possible I would say some one could purchase a copy and mail it to you. But I suspect regional differences might not make that possible.

There's a little extra information about the release on Anime News Network.
Info to go with the live action interviews and footage on the page before this one (on Gatchamania).
Basic info on cast, writer, producer, etc.
Also -- I think Jun is soooooo cute. I love her, even the short hair. I'm not sure how I feel about the boys.

Jinpei is adorable, too! But what is going on with Joe's messy hair? I don't know if it really fits his persona...maybe it will make sense when/ if I see the movie...

I'm sure once the movie is released on DVD in Japan, we'll all be keeping an eye out for subbed copies!

Either way, I'm so looking forward to something new in the Gatch world.... even if I have to use brain bleach after, but so far I have high hopes

I won't regret this at all! I've just been waiting so long... Even if it's not so great, I'll still have fun watching it!
