GG ... you're right ... he doesn't have any long trousers on! Like LB has said, it's just like he had a sudden idea during the night, and he couldn't wait until he tried it at the lab, putting only his lab jacket on in his hurry! LB, I would surely like to see anyone's reaction on seeing him! I also agree in finding the second pic cool, illustrating the man behind everything!

LB ... your thought about the last pic is very plausible! ... that's the one I would have opted for, even if, at first glance, it does give the impression of being the kind of magazine GG has mentioned! I also had the impression that Joe is running after Ken ... why he's doing so, and why that expression on his face, I don't know!

CD ... Ken always looks great, even in such a particular pic, doesn't he?!!!

TJ ... his could really be a nightshirt, but I could more see it like a lab jacket! The question is ... what, or what not, is he wearing underneath!!Rofl

Ken appears to have decided that someone needs a butt-kicking, since he's got his boomerang in hand, though he doesn't look particularly mad. I'm pretty sure this is from a fan comic. I've seen what I suspect is another page from that, with them all in the water. They're at an onsen, which is a hot spring (I think it's more specific than that, though, a more traditional hot spring where each gender has their own area and they go nude while they're in the water, I'm open to correction of course).

In one fic I wrote, I put Chief Anderson in a plush velvet / velour burgundy robe / smoking jacket with a pipe, reading the Sunday paper.

Personally, I'd love to see more informal dress for the Chief. Could he pull off jeans? Shorts? I'm curious now.

Just please keep him away from that horrific outfit they had him in in the OAV!

How would you dress Dr. Nambu? Give him a new style!

Wow, that's a long time. Yet in order for him to receive an update I guess we would have to know some background on the man because where we all come from influences where we are today to a certain extent, wouldn't you say?

IMHO...I think the man would favor the classics. Prolly wears the same Khaki twills and Egyptian Cotton button down shirts he bought with the first real paycheck after grad school, cuz I figure he came from a rather humble, but prolly loving beginning.

He likes things to be neat and tidy like his research and wears a dark navy jacket (single button, double vent)and tie to whatever presentation he might be called on to give. He buys his clothes off the rack from a reputable shop, but has them custom tailored for the best possible fit. Dark shoes and socks. I figure he's the type of guy that doesn't want to have to waste any thoughtful processes on his day to day wear.

I like to give my characters quirks though. Something that perhaps only the folks that know him really well would know as a true gauge to what is going on in his head, and I figure with Nambu it would have to be something with his shoes--Like he only polishes them when something has gone really wrong... the team would know they are in big trouble based on the gloss present in the resident genius's footwear (maybe polishing his shoes is a routine enough that he can mull things over before coming to a conclusion?)

That all being said, however, I really think the character needs a total makeover/backstory. I would like to think that he has a really significant other somewhere...Someone that gives him hope for the future...someone he started dating not long after Joe and Ken were more fully integrated into the program and being taught to function as a team... And that this person really does care for them all and through them the reader/viewer would get a glimpse of what the common folk would be enduring with this never seeming ending war with Galactor, plus in his discussions with them, we'd get some insight into what makes the ole Doc tick...

Anyway, whenever he's home or being totally casual, Dr. Nambu will dig out this old sweater they made for him. It is some complicated pattern, and made out of real wool so he can only comfortably wear it when it is cold out, but he does, like clockwork... and it brings back all kinds of memories...dang maybe the person who made it for him is dead? Hee hee...

(But in all seriousness...characterization is a lot of fun for me, more fun than the actual writing at times, and clothing is a good way to hightlight a character's background, personality and aspirations all in one blow) Thanks for the prompt TJ...now back to writing.

I agree with you about characterization, K2 and clothing is part of a character. I love placing the team in regular clothes instead of their numbered shirts. I actually hate them.

yeah..the numbered shirts were the worst. Even as a kid I thought they were rather redundant.

More like the shirts were obvious and memorable/noticeable and could get them killed. Tongue I'd have liked to see more backstory for Nambu, period. We really didn't see much outside of knowing who his best friend was, that Ken was left with him, that he's a scientist, and he has that house by the cliff which seems to be tricked out with scientific equipment and a basement that can store the God Phoenix. (Where he supposedly put it during Gatchaman II.) We don't know anything about his family or personal life, though he does seem completely absorbed in the fight against Galactor and his science.

I tend to think he didn't come from a very warm family. Probably a very proper one, or at least one that wasn't very touchy-feely. While I picture he did care about little Ken I can't see him being a touchy-feely caretaker. It's one of the reasons I tend to think (with no canon evidence) that Ken was lonely before Joe came around.

Anyway, this was about makeovers ... I can't really remember if the suit he's shown in was "sensible" for his times or a little fashionable or what. I'd probably base my thoughts on that. It also depends on whether you're thinking of the Nambu in the first series who never participates in actual fights, or the Nambu in the later series who actually seems to have some fighting experience and skills.

So if he had a partner/ girlfriend/ wife, what would she be like? PHD? Stripper? Treehugger? If all I had to look forward to between wars was my wards...

Part of me could see him just looking forward to being able to focus on his silence. I'd imagine if he had a partner that person would have to be as driven as he was in order to understand him. Possibly another scientist. When they introduced Dr. Pandora in GII I thought she'd be it, but it's kind of cool that they gave her an entirely different purpose.

I had the same thought when Pandora showed up, but she seemed to me to have a thing about Joe and I don't think it was just because she knew he was a cyborg.

Me too, I don't see him co-habitating with someone who didn't have their own passionate drive, or with someone who didn't have a degree. dumb girls are out, I think.

Yes it would have to be an assistant or research partner.

I have an OC as a romantic interest for Anderson, she's a scientist.

I hadn't seen the pics of Anderson without the mustache before...some of them are really cool - but then, I've always been a fan of the chief...
