Oh Barrdwing, I am so glad you're ok! And I hope you don't have any physical problems after this. I'm also hoping you get another new car! Keep us posted! Huggles

I'll keep you guys informed. Smile I'll sure be glad to have the whole mess settled!

I'm sorry about your accident Barrdwing. I'm glad you're OK. Be sure to let your doctor know when you are getting aches and pains to be sure that there is no lasting damage from the accident. If your insurance company and/or the other party is giving you trouble, you might have to get a lawyer. I hope it won't be necessary--but people here love to sue.

I too live in California and hate the drivers here. I could go on and on about the stupid things they do--honk their horn way before they enter an intersection with a red light to let everyone know they are running the red light, back up on freeway offramps, think the the word COMPACT on a parking space is a verb. Ugh! I really wish we had better public transportation because frankly I'm fed up with the stupidity and the high insurance rates for all these assholes who are supposed to have insurance BY LAW but never do because they can't afford it but can afford to buy a decked out car for street racing.

Met, I can understand your feelings about the drivers in England. I haven't gone to England very often but be assured I don't drive there. I would be afraid of being on the wrong side of the road and don't want to risk hurting anyone. Besides, walking to the train station is great exercise and I like riding the trains and the tube.

It's okay to rant and glad you saw this subject close to my heart and I am glad there is a Rant section.

Did you say you asked for CHiPs? Did you have FISH with the CHiPs?

Sorry about that awful joke.

Glad you okay and pity that I wasn't there to wreck THEIR car.

While I was a studend at the Royal National College for the Blind (RNC or RNCB for short in Hereford), ther is or was a road between the student halls and the college itself and there was a crossing and I have seen drivers just going past the lights AFTER they turn red, which is very stupid if you accidently kill paritally sighted and blind people and even guide dogs, as they actually don't see the danger of the cars until it's a bit late.

Further down the road is a very dangerous place to cross as you would have needed 4 paris of eyes and one of them in the back of your head to cross safely the corner to go to the Fish & Chip and local shops further out from Hereforc centre.

Hopefully the silly woman was arrested and charged for dangerous driving or whatever and you can claim compensation.

Wandering through the topics here, and the title of this one caught my eye all right, because right now I have rather personal reasons to rant about idiotic drivers. Two days ago some bloody unprintable moron blew through a red light and smashed the holy crap out of my car. I'm kinda stiff and sore, but the car is beat all to hades and I'm really upset about that. I'd only had the thing for eight months! It's my first new car! Dammit! And right now I don't know if the agent is going to tell me it's a write-off (which will upset me because it's freakin' tragic to see a car go to the junkers when it's practically new) or try to convince me to get it fixed (which will mean that I'll never really trust the frame again, and of course kills the resale value down the road).

There was no reason for that sharding woman to run that light. She was headed north, no sun in her eyes. The light had been red for at least two seconds, long enough for me to look both ways before pulling out. And she was on a freakin' overpass, on which there are ALWAYS stoplights at either side because of the off-ramps! I wish I'd gone over and sniffed her breath, because her passenger sure had been drinking. (And with my nose, they have to be pretty sloshed for me to notice.) But I was too shook up and scattered to think about that. I did call out the CHP to document the scene, and one of the witnesses was an off-duty police officer; I can't say enough nice things about those two guys, because they were really supportive and the wife of the off-duty officer helped me calm down and think a little more clearly. But I'm scared that something will go wrong with the insurance claim, or that I overlooked some critical detail.

I live in California; worse, I live in Sacramento. 'Nuff said. All the nasty things they say about driving in CA are true, they really are: California drivers have to contend with some uber-idiots who a) can't drive in rain or snow, b) are always in too much of a hurry to pay attention to little things like traffic signals or safe following distances, c) think that everyone should make way for them, d) have no concept whatsoever of how a large vehicle needs a much greater stopping distance, e) think that running errands in a Hummer makes good sense, and that they can drive said Hummer like it was a freakin' Volkswagen Bug, f) are apparently blind, and g) are just plain stupid. Oh Lord, they're stupid. So bleeding stupid. Not a day goes by that I don't see some kind of execrable idiocy happening on the road, and it scared me before, but now it's going to bug me a lot more.

Anyway, thanks to all for this opportunity to rant. I didn't really want to start a new thread for it, but running across this one was just too tempting an opportunity and I feel better for getting some of this off my chest.

You could be the only one to like riding the tube. I don't mind using the trains to go to my parents as in good weather, it's very nice.

As for awful drivers, a comedian over here called Jaspar Carrort use to read out several funny claims from Aussie drivers who must have been drinking when filling in their claims forms.

For example:-

"I tried to dodge the person but he jumped right into me."

I will see if they are on YouTube as they were very funny.

Breathes in and out trying to stay calm. "Does the infamous line "You won't like it if I am angry." apply to you when it comes to certain vehicle drivers.

If not, the read the thread from the beginning and it may explain why I am attempting to stay calm and probably failing.

A month ago, when I was walking to my local supermarket Asda on a Sunday like I was today, I saw a pick-up truck parked right on the corner of the corner of the road I was walking and and it was parked on double yellow lines (I don't know about any other country but that illegal in Britain) but partly parked on the pavement.

I could squeeze past but what would happen if a car tried to turn left into the road from the main road and smashed into another car coming to the main road?

I hadin't taken a picture of it.....I wished I did now.

NOW just minutes ago, I took a picture of this.....

What I want to know is, why? Behind the row of houses, where the vehicle is parked is believe or not, several garages for those houses, therefore the driver could have parked it there.

It can't take a genius to figure that our.......could it?

What I will also do is to take pictures like this and start a collection of stupid drivers parking their vehicles in illegal places.

Why not send the photo to the local police department/traffic enforcement? And do the same every time you see something like that? I know it's not very satisfying, but it would at least get that person's license plate and vehicle into the eye of the people who could make their life unhappy.

I completely agree with you regarding the colossal stupidity of someone who would park like that. That kind of thing gets me all riled up. paddling There's no excuse for someone putting other people at risk like that: there is simply no justification for behaving that way. I'd give 'em one of these MG40

They do it because they feel intitled... I deal with this a lot in the summer because people love to park there cars in the front of the store in our loading zone, shop for a couple hours, and then leave...

I have got to admit, I was tempted to ring up right and then but then they may think I am wasting their time and probably do nothing.

I am thinking of putting this photo and others on my MSN Space's blog.

I know that it does nothing but you never know.......

Entitled . . . umm, entitled to what? Oh, wait, I know what they can have: twenty minutes tied into a sack with three angry cats! Naked, of course. (The driver, that is. I suppose the cats could be naked too, but Sphinxes don't seem as temperamental as other breeds and that just won't do.)

Cloud sits back laughing while thinking about naked cats in bags with naked drivers.

Okay sorry!!
I guess this time change thing we did last night has warped my brain.
