We played cow racing tonight.

I won (for once)

Its a great device but you really need two people to make it fun.

(and several more to cheer you on)

It's on Wii Play. I love that game. Everything looks so, well, knitted.

My daughter loves the tank game, can't understand why.

Neither of us "get" the table tennis.

She bought herself Sims Castaway with her birthday money and has played that quite a lot. I, regrettably, have barely touched the Wii for months, and I think the last thing I played on it was the minigames on Sonic and the Magic Rings.

You know that the wii is the only console with significantly different controls since then? You could easily switch to any of the other current gen consoles without problems. Or even last gen consoles.

The wii isn't hard to get used to, it's instinctive. If you've ever played a racing game you got really into and tilted the controller as you went into a turn, then you could easily play the same kind of game on the wii.

The only problem is games where the controls were poorly designed - and that's the developers fault for being morons and not understanding that stuff like 'shake wiimote' doesn't instinctively translate to 'do a punch'.

Tengu - you know there are singleplayer games... of course you need more than one person to make games designed for multiplayer fun, but singleplayer you don't. Take Mario Galaxy. It's designed for singleplayer only. In the complimentary (and somewhat tacked on) multiplayer mode the second person has very little to do at all and will probably get bored.

If you want an enjoyable singleplayer experience that isn't wrought by all kinds of frustration, try getting Super Mario Galaxy. If you're pretty good at games and want something tougher, maybe No More Heroes, or Metroid Prime. Both singleplayer experiences of great quality.

And you all do know that wii play and wii sports are just tech demos? They were never meant to be full games. Just games to show you what the controller can do. It's why they come free bundled with stuff (and why they're graphically ugly as hell). Just like link's crossbow training, a tech demo for the wii zapper accessory. They're still fun, of course, and some of the few games that really use the wiimote to the best of it's abilities... but for a more polished experience along the same lines of gameplay (which generates a lot more laughs and cheering) why not get Rayman? It was released on launch so you should be able to get it cheap somewhere - it's good. Very fun, it has more content, looks nicer, and has some pretty funny things to do in it. And you can really get competing with it.
