Look at the Grand Canyon. Took a very long time, but water created it.

They're saying the typhoon that hit the Philippines may have been the strongest to ever make landfall. I think the US has had it lucky this year regarding hurricanes.

California had a relatively mild fire season, too. Yosemite was the biggest, but it was not a vastly populated area like we have had in years past.
