Thank you everyone for your kind words. And I really did not intend to take away from the news of this upcoming film, but it IS very encouraging to be in such an environment, even if the change/move means I am now much busier preparing for my lessons than I have been in years.

LB, thank you for finding those youtube links on the actors it certainly helps to see some action to them instead of just as a still image.

Yoo- hoo for the movie, albeit a rather cautious yoo-hoo, and a totally not cautious hooray for CD!

Glad you're enjoying the new class - I als changed, not work but subject-matter recently, and am also going through a phase when there's so much to do that I hardly remember what day of the week it is Smile

Yes, that is exactly how I feel most of the time. I look forward to my weekends and the occasional day off/PD day so I can catch up in my thinking.

I'm not too sure about live-action versions of manga or anime. I've seen a fair share of them and mostly they look quite cheesy. By which I don't mean to say I'm not happy, of course. Any Gatch material is welcome. It's just... sigh... I'll go and stand in the corner...

Therethere I get what you're saying...I guess this means I should wheel myself to the corner, too. Disabled

The only other Nikkatsu anime live-action I've seen is Yatterman, and I'll say that they did a great job with it. Yes, it was cheesy, but in the manner of the actual cartoon. They went to great lengths to translate the cartoon exactly into live action. The lines, visual effects and story were very consistent with a typical Yatterman episode, other than the story being a bit longer and more complicated (movie is 2+ hours, one episode is 25-ish minutes). It was very clear that they were familiar with the series and did their best to do a direct translation.

So I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility for them to do a reasonable version of Gatchaman.

Plus, anything that rekindles interest in Gatch is a good thing, right?

I second that!

Sosai Tim found this interview on Youtube with the actors. It's in Japanese, but you can hear their voices and there are brief glimpses of the movie being filmed (although no Birdstyles).

Looks like this is actually coming together!

Ohmygod. JOE IS GORGEOUS.

I was irritated they weren't going to make Joe Italian, or Jinpei ...something else? But whatever. It's a remake...they can do what they want. And THIS JOE IS SO SOSOSOSO BEAUTIFUL.

*cannot contain self around beautiful men...sorry* hehe

Lunulet, I think they'd have trouble finding an Italian actor for Joe who was fluent in Japanese. Wink

Asakura sounds like a Japanese name more than an Italian one. We can all pretend, I suppose, that some Asakuras emigrated at some point from Japan to BC Island...

I agree, the guys look good -even Ryu is kind of hot! Jinpei is so cute, and Jun looks spot-on, aside from the short hair.

I see that they're wearing "ISO" uniforms. You can see it on the badge on Jun's shirt.

Funny how Ken looks oh-so-proper, wearing a tie, while Joe has his ISO shirt tied around his waist. A bit cliche, but it does fit them.

Posted by ChrisW on 21-12-2012 at 03:21:

Poor Jun, as usual they couldn't afford enough cloth for her uniform. *grin*

I wonder if Joe really is that much shorter than Ken, or it's just perspective because he's standing in the back.

Thanks for this, TJ! It seems as things are on their way ... let's hope they remain!

I too have noticed Joe's more petit body structure, as compared to Ken's! It's something I have to get used to! It also seems that they're going to portray the Condor's character as more rebel! This notwithstanding, they're all gorgeous! Can't wait to see them in Birdstyle!

LB ... I second your suggestion that Joe was Japanese, but was taken to BC Island, or born there from emigrants!

CW ... you're right ... in the picture LB froze it seems that the actress is also conscious about the length of her skirt!! Well ... they have to somehow stick to canon, do they?!

I needed a break from my book and popped in for a few minutes and found this.

I'm excited, but reserved. They're actually filming, which is good news.

My question is, is the film only going to be released in Japan, since it is in Japanese?

That is what I too have been wondering Becky. Or more so, how long will it take for us to be able to get a copy with subtitles?
