Long Island ice tea. Hmm... It's been a while since I had one of those. Pretty delicious. Though my personal favourite is the Green iguana. God, I love them. Though right now I can't really afford their components. And then there's that alcohol ban going on in Czech rep. ;_; Have to stick with wine.

That reminds me of an old joke from the old Soviet Union days, when vodka was banned...

Two men were standing in line. "Wouldn't you know it?" the first man said, "Gorby just had to be a teetotaler! I'm miserable!"

"It could be worse." the second man replied, "He could be celibate."

I wonder which one would actually be worse for the people of Soviet Union (don't have much experience myself. I was five when it all came crashing down. Hardly remember the Velvet Revolution). But right now, 26 people have died because of methanol in bottles of spirits, so everyone seems to be kind of paranoid over here. Well, I've got my Moravian Muscat, so at least I can drink at peace. Drunk Drunk Drunk

Turning back to rant, can I add my own ranting here? Just came down with a bad cold, and it's the busiest time of the year at work whoo

I'll see your cold, I've had it for the last four days, and DH had it before that (missed two days of work); and raise you an F*d up toilet: my toilet is leaking from underneath the base at the floor. Nothing like trying to mop up standing off of the floor when all you want to do is crawl under the covers and die.

Ooooops! Yes, that indeed makes me feel a bit better! Now if I could only breathe...

Good luck with your cold/flooding loo, Ame!

Maybe he drank but didn't swallow...

(just one of the permutations of "I smoked but didn't inhale quip).

Thank you, TJ!

That's indeed what I'm having -- occasionally with a drop of grog inside!

You know, it's amazing how often people stubbornly refuse to learn from others' mistakes (myself included). For example, banning alcohol didn't work in America in the 1920's, so why do other governments think it would work for them? (You don't have to be much of a student of American history to see what I mean -- if you know anything about Al Capone, then you have some idea of how much of a failure Prohibition was.)

Well, the thing is, the same lessons don't always carry over from culture to culture. Take a country where almost everyone is staunchly the same religion, and that religion strictly bans drinking. Banning alcohol there entirely might not have the same level of blowback that it did in the US.

That said, human nature being human nature, sometimes banning something just makes it more intriguing. Tongue

Thanks, Marie! The cold is slowly getting better, not fast enough, though.

We are still not sure what caused the toilet to back-flow, but it happened in another apartment, too (only into their bath tub), so something in the line is blocked or messed up. The plumber changed the seal (I forgot the technical term) underneath our toilet and snacked the line, but they are just temporary fixes. The toilet needs to be replaced, most likely tomorrow. As for the snaking being temporary, we've done it ourselves as the toilet has a history of clogging, but this time it didn't come from the toilet. I think we just have old, narrow lines that easily clog; or there is a root in the line somewhere that likes to catch things.

Hope everyone is starting off October on a better note. Out here, October has started off with a heat wave, and some of the warmest temps of the year. And my baseball team that I've followed since I was little clinched a playoff berth. So this month is looking up so far.
