So what kinds of food is everyone eating this night? Anything special?

So which country actually celebrates first? Alaska, or what?

You've got a head start on me -I've only had one beer so far this evening. But the night is still young here in the eastern time zone of the U.S....

Yup, GMT+1 here. Me, my mom and my mom's boyfriend started off with wine, then came the obligatory sparkling wine at midnight (I stood up while the national anthem was playing. Do the TVs at U.S./Ozland/Canada/Etc also play the national anthem at midnight?), and now that mom's off to bed, I'm returning to wine again. This is actually the first time since 2004 that I'm celebrating with my family. Too bad my brother passed away last autumn so he can't be here with me. Well, I suppose I have to drink his share as well, lest he'll beat me up when we meet up one day.

New Zealand and Australia were the first ones to ring in 2012 (as I type this it's 11.50am on 1 January here in Brisbane).

I feasted with some good friends at a girlie night last night - we had home made pizza (mushroom, olive and pepperoni with lots of mozarella cheese) and some champagne, followed by more champagne and an ice cream cake sort of dessert

I hope you are all enjoying!

I'm probably amongst the last on the board to ring in the new year, being in California. Victoria, generally in the US and Canada, the national anthem isn't played at midnight, but the song Auld Lang Syne.

Last night we have fondue at a friend's house. She made traditional Swiss fondue (swiss, emmentaler and gruyere cheeses) a meat fondue and a chocolate fondue! Needless to say, we were all stuffed!

We always have pork with sauerkraut for New Year's Day dinner. I'm not sure if it's a US thing, a northeast thing, or an of German descent thing.

I think it must be northeast.

My family came from the mid-west and strong German heritage, and we usually have ham and scalloped potatoes.

Though, we did that for Christmas this year.

I think tonight will be left overs. Made a full pot of Minestrone last night for dinner.

Dragonsbain ... thanks a lot for the info regarding my sign!

I hope everyone has had a lovely New Year's Eve, and that the New Year is already revealing itself generous to all! Thanks God, this year my New Year's Eve and New Year's Day were spent with my family (DH and kids!), stressful free at home! I couldn't ask for more after the hurdles faced during the last year, really! Lots of wine, yummy nibbles, and music!

I hope everyone has a happy and healthy New Year. So far my New Years wish has not been kept, but I keep waiting.

I have read a few of you saying you hope 2012 will be a better year. I have heard a lot of forecasts predicting 2012 will be an even worse year, especially financially. But I guess that all depends on how bad 2011 was for people. Emotionally and mentally it was a very bad year for me and all I can hope is that this year will see a change for the good for me.
