--- Thinking about doing Gatchaman/BotP/G-Force comparison video... (http://www.gatchamania.net/threadid.php?threadid=3724)
Thanks for the feedback so far!
In selecting clips for the video, I tried to keep it uniform all throughout, which became difficult because:
- BotP skipped around the Gatch episode order a lot.
- In all 3 English dubs, it seemed as if the respective voice actors were still getting into to their roles during the first couple of episodes, thus it didn't represent their best work...this is especially true for "G-Force". I included the famous character intro and Tornado sequence from the first ep regardless.
- In "G-Force", the producers NEVER settled on a permanent name for the Tornado technique like in Gatch and BotP...it was always "Tornado", "Tornado Formation" or some synonym for "Tornado". They did the same with the ISO president, calling him "Anderson" at first but in later episodes, "Commander Todd". Pretty sloppy production right there, but somewhat understandable given the 3-month window under which the show was produced according to Dean Andre.
- My VHS recording of "G-Force" Episode 2 cut off right after Ace switched to Firebird Mode....into a circa-1995 ad for the "How To Use A Personal Computer" program (with obligatory toll-free 1-800 number). I should've included it in the "Firebird" section just for kicks, but I didn't, ha!
Awesome job Dirk. I really enjoyed it and it made me long for those days long ago when I rushed home from school to watch Battle of the Planets, eager to see what new adventures they had in store.
I Recognized that something was missing even way back then, but with the side by side comparisons you can see the differences clearly. Especially the different music scores of G-Force and GM.
Loved it and look forward to anything else you decide to produce.
Neat! I like that you used the same clips for the three different shows. Your video makes an excellent direct comparison, not just for the terminology and names they use, but also for the different dialogue and different voice actors!
I notice that in Gatch (and GOS) they don't do too much in the "assemble the team" intro except give their names and rank numbers and it's explained that they "follow Dr. Nambu's orders", but in BOTP, Zark tells us that Mark "is the real leader of G-Force," that Princess is the only female, that Jason is "hot-headed," that Tiny is a "big fellow" who "pilots the command ship" and that Keyop was grown from a single cell in a lab -a lot more information!
Dear Dirk,
I finally had a chance to watch your video.
Great job. This is my first time hearing the G-Force take on everything.
Thanks for the time and effort.

If you get some more free time, maybe you could do a violence comparison video.
I know the episodes about the Van Allen belt have some of the 'best' contrast between BotP and Gatchaman, once G1 infiltrates the base.

Nah, I've decided since I've finished the first video that this is it. I became a bit deluded while making my grandiose plans, when I sat down and realized that my videos would just be targeted and seen by a niche audience at most. Too much effort just for that. This basic comparison should at least end the most common confusions between the English adaptations.
Only other thing I've got down the pike related to Gatchaman is converting my collection of G-Force episodes on VHS to DVD, or at least recording them to PC. Seeing as there's such a glut of Gatch and BotP episodes already up on YT, that project would just be for me.
When and if that Gatchaman movie comes out, hopefully it'll reinvigorate interest in the product.......but I seriously doubt that it'll come out.
