You've found the nicest way to answer the question, which is the title of this thread, Springie!

It's by far the most unique (and yet, believable) explanation I've heard!

Unfortunately, this thread kinda reminds me of this true story....

But let's hope that things turned out a little better for the puppy....

Ooooo, that is so sad.
Thank you for posting it Green. I am always a sucker for a pet story like that.

That's a heartbreaking story! Thanks for reminding me of it, Green! I have already heard about it ... it's one of those stories that is difficult to forget!

It is one of those stories that even though it makes me sad, it also makes me convinced that animals are capable of love and devotion beyond 'where's my dinner?'
I worked for several months in Shibuya and walked past the statue next to the station every day... I saw so many people pat the plinth as they walked past... It truly made me happy to think that Hachiko is somewhere, with his long mourned owner, just lapping up those extra pats from people he never met but had affected so much!

We have a saying, here, that, sometimes, it's better when you trust an animal instead of a human being! An animal gives without asking anything in return, and remains loyal to you until death, no matter what happens!
