I'd love to see another perspective on it!

Ah, I know I'd never get flamed here Big Grin I wrote it before Gatchamania existed. It might have been so long ago that is was before the yahoo list, back when Gatchaman communication was via the GML, which had over a thousand members and was totally unmoderated. You would not believe some of the trolling and flaming that happend on there just as a regular part of the way things worked. It was a vicious place.

I have no idea whether the fic still exists or not. I suspect it's on a pc with a broken power supply, but I can't be sure. It's been at least 3 pcs since I would have written it, and it could have easily got lost.

Wasn't there a theory that he had ninja training?

Standard rebelios child who escaped from the restrains of a dominant father figure (that's how he saw it) who wanted him to enter the family business, he would escape when he could ,to hang out with his cooler friends who did street fighting, muck about (there he would learn tough lessons, lock picking etc) and thrive on it, his father would find him and force him back. they would fight, argue and his father would turn it back on him (he then learned how to minimise his emotions and hid his reaction)

Something happened to change that, eg his father lost his business , blamed him, them committed suicide so not to bring shame on the family (not sure on Japanese culture) out of guilt Nambu throws himself into his work, found his way into science, then to ISO

Perhaps that is why he is so hard on Joe - he knows the road Joe may be heading down - but he ends up being like his father in his approach,

He is secretive cause that how he learned to protect himself,

He does not tell the team everthing - cause in his own head he things he is protecting them

He had a very interesting childhood surounded by interesting people (working for his father? japanese marfia?) and learned less than law abiding traits, (that how he knows Spectra will not play by earth rules (if he was them he wouldn't)

Above average intelligence , but is drive to prove himself - maybe to prove his father wrong that he is not useless...

As for women/ men he does or has dated, but maybe he is emotional challenged when it comes to confiding and only passionate in bed (eww bad images in head about him giving Joe pointers)

so...?! random thought..end.. smoke

In Gatchaman Fighter, prior to Nambu dying, he shows he has rather good fighting abilities. I think from that the theory has come that he at least partially trained the team himself.

You're right, Meridianday ... I think this aspect of his was highlighted in the episode when Jun had escorted Dr. Nambu to the laboratory where they could have acquired the new treatment which they thought could have saved Ken! I remember myself being left flabbergasted at seeing this new Dr. Nambu! There's no real fact that implies that he had taken part in their training, but, after seeing this episode I could imagine many suppositions taking place!

A very intriguing idea.

Wow, so many interesting thoughts! I especially love the idea that Nambu was an orphan himself, and became a 'scientist Bruce Wayne'... heck, I'm almost inspired to write a fic about Nambu now! Not like I'm in the middle of others.... ;-)

And Meridian, if you can find that fic of yours, I know we'd love to see it!

Did anyone ever consider a possibility of Nambu being like Raphael... working for the enemy, not knowing it, and then once he realized what they were doing, he left?

Just my lil ole theory --

I always saw it playing out something along these lines --

Nambu was born to well-to-do parents, and he had the high-IQ, advanced fast in school, but then got bored, or maybe was tired of always being labeled "different" and "special" and so rebelled and enlisted (to the horror of his parents) in a branch of the military service. It would be here that he would not only learn the essential military fighting skills that he would pass along to the SNT, but he would also meet Kentaro Washio.

While serving, he traveled around the globe and saw firsthand the devestation that not only war produced, but also pollution and the like.

So inspired, after his tour of duty was over, he immersed himself into his studies, then research in the ISO. He decided not to marry or have children of his own, because he knew so many other children orphaned due to war or disease that needed a home...then he stumbled across something bigger...and his higher purpose was revealed to him...

You are going to write this story for us, yes? You've already put so much thought into it, it would be a waste for it to not get any farther than this summary.

I hadn't planned on it, Amethyst. I always just figure no one would really be interested in reading something like that...

We're discussing it aren't we? That means will read it. All you gotta do is write and then let us know where you've posted it, and it will be read.

I've got the impression that he probably had a fairly privileged childhood -weathy parents, the best schools, all sorts of open doors and opportunites, that sort of thing- but might have had parents/mentors/teachers that also instilled in him the notion that he should strive to do good and use his skills and knowledge to "give back" and make the world better, and a strong ethical code of right and wrong as well as a deep appreciation for scientific advancements. Sort of like a scientist "Bruce Wayne," except one that, instead of donning a super hero uniform himself, adopted a bunch of kids and trained them to do it.

I like this idea LB. It is similar to what I use in my AU although in my stories, as LW suggests, Anderson has a domineering/controlling father. And although Anderson does not runaway from his father he does enter into, and eventually runs the family business.

Because the "business" was a counter-terrorism organization and Anderson had "agent" training. He has also learned to keep secrets "close" and not to reveal everything to others until all information is gathered. Which is why he leaves the team in the dark so often.

With his high IQ he has also studied in the field of the sciences which allows him to understand the scientific information his company uncovers, but he has a team of scientists under his employment who use the information to prevent Global Warming and "green" the planet. (Much like Nambu is doing in Gatch.)

I like this theory RIgirl. I second Amethyst voice in asking to see this as a story .... Go for it.

Meridian - I would love to read your story as well! We ENCOURAGE writers here, we would never flame anyone.

Keep poking and it might come out, Amethyst.

Although I keep figuring I have told you all enough that you do not NEED (or want) to read any more of it. Wink

RI, I love that background that you created! I hink it would be wonderful if you fleshed that out into a ficm or a series of small ficlets.

I am borrowing TJ's pokey stick for RI Poke and CD Poke

I think both need a few additional pokes Poke Poke for not only doubting your own abilities, but your readers desire to read. CD, I'm beginning to think you're a market expert testing the market for your product and drawing the consumer in with hints to increase curiosity. For that you get an additional poke Poke
