I supposed I'm just immature then, that I giggled through the entire episode about 'Whirlyknife'. Wink

I don't recall thinking there was anything funny about it as a kid, though.

I don't remember this episode at all from when it aired. I might have missed it.

Hi all!

I don't know why Whirlyknife would give them the giggles. It suited the name of the Mecha, and at the time, as James said, it was very common to give things names that suit them in a child's mind.

Exactly! And after all the years the actors had in the business, and after all of the strange names they had been exposed to in all of the series they had worked on, I can't see why Whirlyknife would have been reacted to as anything other than yet another strange name in a long list of strange names they had encountered in their careers. I know it has never had any humorous effect on me, though obviously that is not the case for everyone. To each their own.

Actually - you might be thinking of Cape Canaveral... where the Shuttle launches....

Cape Hatteras is in North Carolina - near Kitty Hawk...

Never expected an animated program to dig up such geographical interest!

For some reason, "Whirlyknife" sounds to me like some sort of food-chopping kitchen gadget that would be sold via TV infomercials, late at night. I agree that, as a name for a mecha, it's definitely lacking in the intimidation or gravitas departments!

I find myself wondering what ended up happening to Dr. Nakamura. In most episodes, everyone on the Galactor side except Katse ends up dead, not a prisoner of the Science Ninjas.

As he's wearing Katse's mask and clothes, Ken might conclude that he's seen Katse's face and could describe him. I'd like to think that Ken's gotten over his urge to interrogate Galactor prisoners by using fire extinguishers, but if Nakamura is as loyal to Katse as he seems, he could be in for an unpleasant interrogation to get him to talk.

That's an interesting idea, LB, and could make for a great fic starter...

I suppose it could.

Considering Katse's amazing talent for disguises (possibly aided by mutant shape-shifting abilities), maybe the man that Ken unmasked on the bridge of the God Phoenix really was Katse and Nakamura perished when Komaking crashed into the island (that would explain why no one saw an escape pod of any kind leaving Komaking). I wouldn't put it past Katse to fake them out by disguising himself as Nakamura and then putting his own mask and clothes on top of that disguise...

Actually, I think we did see an escape pod leave Komaking, just as Jun and Ken were jumping off with 'Katse'.

Oh right. I looked again, and the top piece does separate off before it goes crashing into the island (forgot you'd mentioned that).

But, I suppose we don't know for certain who, if anyone, was on board that piece. Smirk

Given the type of show BotP was, most of the mecha names that I remember were not quite so outlandish as all that. So 'Whirlyknife' stands out.
