Pretty good episode.
I liked the beach scenes, and I wonder if Joe running out of missiles and putting the team in danger is a bit of character development. You'd think that after being so hasty with the bird missiles that he'd thing twice before using them again.
I like the way Red Impulse was introduced here. We saw the same basic thing that the team did and were left with the same questions. It reminded me of how Racer X would show up on Speed Racer.

OF COURSE we have to believe Mark! He would never lie, right?

What was with Ryu's trunks with the number 5 on them? Thank goodness the others didn't have their numbers on their suits.

But at least that's Ken's shirt, not his trunks.
And that leads back to a discussion we've all had many times - the numbers make them stand out like sore thumbs.

Thanks goodness that their underwear aren't numbered also ... at least from the few times we've seen members of the Team in them! But then we could associate the number with a day of the week in order to come up with a plausible explanation!

Resisting urge to make obvious joke about men and laundry...
Back in the day, the numbered shirts might have seemed necessary to animators. Easy recognition for casual viewers (even though nobody's going to confuse Ken and Joe, much less Jinpei and Ryu). Early days in television anime. Still figuring out what to do and how to do it.

Another thought about the numbered shirts .... it identifies the members while out of uniform for those viewers who did not start the series at the beginning.

And also their rank order...
