I love the sweater! There is a saying with knitters that the fastest way to end a relationship is to knit your boyfriend a sweater -- so I wonder what galactor girl decided to take the easy way out - instead of the dying way!

It's a great avatar!

Laugh2 I can just see it now: Joe enters the Snack J, wearing a coat, and approaches Ken at the counter.

Joe: "Hey Ken, you know that girl I've been dating?"

Ken: "The one with the gun, who won't tell you what she does for a living?"

Joe: "Yeah, her -well, I'm going to break up with her."

Ken: "But I thought you really liked-"

Joe: "That was before she knit me... this !"

[Joe whips open coat to reveal the sweater he's wearing beneath it].

"Wait... I smell something..." Jun exclaims. "I think it's... plastique...."

"Your sweater... it's smoking, Joe!" Jinpei shouts in horror.

Madly, the Condor rips off the sweater and throws it out the front door of the Snack J just in time. A loud boom is heard, with accompanying fire and smoke pouring through the still swinging door of the bar.

Ryu comes in , blackened from head to toe.

"Did Jun make cookies again?"

I return back to see many people are switching to christmas avatars.
Like your avatar trideegurl and the fact that you drew it really impresses me.

Love the ficlet LB and TJ, gave me a laugh, thank you. I just have to say "Poor Ryu." He always seems to get picked on, and of course Jun's cooking is always picked on.

Hi all!

A few years back (2004? 2005?), Amano did an exhibition in Los Angeles premiering that piece of art, along with a number of others based off of Tatsunoko characters (Casshan, Time Bokan, and the like). Heather and I made it to the opening night ceremony and had the chance to chat a little with Amano. Much of it was his tribute to his older works and style, and had a fairly similar look to what you see there. Some of the pieces were HUGE! We're talking 6~7 feet tall here! As impressive as the big pieces were, some of the smaller images, done using traditional art techniques that are pretty much never used for modern art styles like Amano uses, had more impact.

As far as which Gatchaman characters Amano had a hand in designing, it's generally accepted that he worked on Jun, Nambu, and Katse (There's a little about this in the Amano book "Imagine"), while most of the others are attributed to Tatsuo Yoshida. In reality, there was probably far more of a collaboration going on, with Yoshida in the lead role, than each man working on their characters individually. When the series was in production, Amano contributed to many of the guest character designs.

By the time of Gatchaman II, Tatsuo Yoshida had passed away, and Amano was in charge of the designs for many of the guest characters, with Akemi Takada also helping in that area. Most of the main cast was done by updating the first series model sheets, with some new designs (For Gel Sadra, Dr. Raphael, and the like) by Ippei Kuri. The same was true for Gatchaman Fighter.

And thus I was right, thanks James.
