I learned about Order of the Stick from TJ, and now I am hopelessly addicted. It is so damned funny, and the story is great too.

Ahhh, TJ and LB should be able to tell you more - it is a comic based on Gaming.

Here is a link: http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0001.html

CD, Thanks for the link. Funny stuff!

My brother, who was the one who forced me to play D&D, will really like it. (although eventually I ended up liking it - particularly the DM who took me to my senior home coming dance)

Even a cursory knowledge of gaming will get you by with this strip. Try reading the first 10 strips or so and see what you think.... Devil1

You had a nice brother! I wanted to play D&D with my brother and his friends but he wouldn't let me.

You dated an RPG guy? That gives you even more "geek cred."

Hmm . . . never thought to add that to my tally. Does that fall above 10 years in Marching Band but below still being a closet Parrot Head? Or maybe it ties with watching the original Star Wars movie 19 times - when it was still in theaters. Hard to say.

Okay, I guess my Geek cred just went down the tubes... what's a Parrot Head?

19 times?! That's pretty hard core.

I do know what a Parrot Head is (there are many in Ohio, where I lived for many years), but I'm a closet ABBA fan.

Parrot Heads are:

You have to see it to believe it

Ah..... okay. That makes sense now. I'm not sure it qualifies for Geek Cred though... but then, what do I know? Wink

Hmm . . .I think it is geeky in a Marching Band and Musical Theater kinda way but not in a Hitch Hikers or D&D kinda way. I was generalizing across geekdoms. Hey, I guess I must be a Crossover Geek! (not sure why I am proud of this).

I think my geekiness is mainly in fantasy/sci-fi and academic (obscure and useless topics in European history) areas.

Not sure if that is crossover, though.

Posted by gogirl212 on 25-08-2008 at 01:18:

Obscure topics in European History . . . let's see, I think that makes you an Esoteric Geek, and earns you crossover creds too. Welcome to the club.

I think I like this "crossover geek" concept.

Oh, and if ever anyone wakes up in the night and wonders, "Just how should I differentiate the roles of politics and theology in the English Reformation?", let me know.

I won't hold my breath! Laugh2

Posted by Transmute Jun on 25-08-2008 at 02:08:

Um, don't hold your breath for me on that one. Wink

lb -I'm not sure about the politics, but I know about the theater - Restoration Comedy - a genre laden with sexual innuendo and the origins of "trouser parts" -- an excuse to dress women up as men which was considered very hot. If fact, it was during the restoration that women really got to be on the English Stage - no more soprano boys playing Julliette and Portia.

( clearly once you go geek, you never go back)

Come on, it was a pivotal time in the march of Western civilization, with critical significance to the Atlantic expansion the followed on its heels!

But no one cares... Crying

Wink1

ETA: Alright, we've someone into the Restoration period! Yes, a very tricky time, as it all played out as to whether England would follow the path set by the French of "divine monarchy" and little role for Parliament, culminating with the "Glorious Revolution" of 1688.

And women (finally) got to act on stage!
