ITA, TJ! I think Imagi should be consulting James for this film! Jumping

I suppose I could post "yeah, what he/she said!" on Felix Ip's blog -so many of you have posted opinions that I concur with!

Fingers crossed that he will pay attention...

I agree that James should be Imagi's consultant! If they listened to him, they'd get everything right.

Posted by Condorfan on 06-08-2008 at 01:22:

Those new images were from the footage Imagi showed at Anime Expo and Comic Con. I was wondering who was with soldiers--sounds like a situation Joe might find himself in. I'm just speculating that Joe was being recruited from prison (as per that scene with the weapons deal).

Ooh, great thought, Condorfan!! It totally slipped my mind that the movie is/was supposed to focus on how the team was formed! Could be an interesting twist on the story if Imagi picks it up from when they're teenagers rather than young kids. Of course this will totally blow the idea that they've been training for years to become Ninjas, but if you take the OVA's into consideration, it's almost like an "in-between" mark. (not saying that I think the movie should change the age canon any, but I'm anticipating some major changes to the team's background story).

I'm okay with changing the background, as long as Joe's parents were still killed by Galactor. They can change anyone else's background and I won't mind. I'd even be HAPPY if they took out Ken's being related to RI! Wink

I was actually hoping they would explore their backgrounds a little more. I guess mostly because I always felt there were "holes" in the story with it. But I'm with you when it comes to changing the ages... I'm ok with it as long as the core of their backgrounds are there.

As far as the RI part, even though he'll never win "Father of the Year", RI is an integral part of the story. Could the character in the movie be a little "softer" than RI in the series? Sure, to a point. But change his "hard-assness" too much and his character won't have the same implications on Ken or develop Ken into who he becomes (speaking from a complete leadership POV. Emotionally, RI totally messed him up and was a horrible influence!).

This just more speculation on my part, but that could be the reason Joe would have been in prison. After his parents being murdered, he took his rage out on the world and being in and out of prison would make sense for the character. As long as the characters are respected, their orgins can be open but I do agree that the issue of Joe's parents being murdered should be kept. To be honest, I wouldn't mind if they did take out RI being related to Ken...or to make things interesting, have him related to Ken but he's a spy for Galactor!

Again, I'm just speculating.....

Wow, Condorfan! I think we need to get the pokey on you! Your ideas are fabulous, and regardless of whether this is the direction the film will be going or not, you should write a fic based on these "speculations"!

I still like the double agent idea for RI I heard of.

Hi all,

A couple more images have turned up, this time on butterboom.com. They aren't concept art like on Felix's site, but promotional art from a sales sheet for the film. Despite being released only last month, there's no telling how current these images are, or if the designs have been or will be changed from these. They can be seen at:

http://www.butterboom.com/2007/03/22/imagi-unveils-gatchaman/

They're at the bottom of the page, tacked on after a very old article from March of last year.

Thank you James.
The image of the teams uniforms reminds me of the OAV uniforms, they look nice and sleek.

Although I do have to complain about the "size" of the Owl, and I am wondering if that is a "slit" up the side of the Swan's skirt.

Thank you, James! I love seeing all of these images coming out! It makes me think that we made enough of a splash at Comic Con that Imagi is beginning to take us seriously!

I certainly hope so TJ, Huggles Their lack of knowledge on who your were dressed as, kinda scares me. Maybe they are allowing the little things out, to let us know they haven't forgotten us.

I like the look of the uniforms--recognizable yet they have a modern look.

(Boy the guys look hot in that--except Jinpei of course--I'm not a pervert!)

Thanks again James!

They look a bit like the OAVs. Though Jinpei's boots are just huge.

Thank you, James, for posting the link!

Not bad, and I'm glad that they reflect on the original art, though I'm assuming that there will be some "redesigns" to these too...

Ken - I think I like his the most, but maybe I'm just biased. I love how every muscle is outlined (and I stress every!) Drool1

Jun - whoa. Why stop the leg slit there? Might as well let it go all the way to her navel.... Rolleyes

Joe - looking good. Maybe it's just the angle he's drawn at, but is it just me or does his face remind you of Getz?? Eek4

Jinpei - ITA about the boots... Reminds me of Gene Simmons in his "Demon" outfit... Also, why is he so short?? He looks like he's about six in that rendering!

Ryu - Again with the bulk that makes him look heavy as opposed to muscular?? Someone hire Springie to draw Ryu the way he should be drawn!

Ok, now that it seems that I've dragged it through the mud, I really do like the designs. I like how they're updated and modernized. And I love the helmets on all of them. Sleek and don't look "bulky".

After your description Hino, I double checked the picture. While Joe and Ken may be well muscled , something about their ab area makes them look starved. Could be the way that the uniforms lay upon them, possibly a neked picture of them might be nice! Tongue1
