Tolkien was my first encounter with fantasy writing -- I read it in high school and actually stayed up all night and then stayed home sick the next day to finish reading The Return of the King.

cd - I don't know how to do those quote box things, but you said you were getting your writing confidence back . . . well, I have never written and posted anything publicly ever - and never written any gatch fic at all -- so I would be so grateful if you shared any insights you have in the confidence direction.

Gogirl: for the quote thing, at the top of a post you will see three buttons [quote] [edit] and .... I can't remember the other. Badacid

Anyways click the quote button and then type your message at the bottom.

As for confidence thing. TJ is the expert at that. Well her, Springie and Hino have been great helping me start writing again. I started writing my first fic about a year ago and it took me almost 4 months before I gained enough confidence to send it to TJ for her to read. Then it probably took another month or so of her prodding to get me to post it. (I am a very insecure Owl.)

Otherwise your confidence to post seems to be great, you have taken the first step and begun posting. Keep doing as you are and soon you will be a full fledged member, addicted to this place and unwilling to take time off.
But if you have any problems just ask, there are always friendly folks here who are willing to help. Pleased

Thanks for the quote lesson -- I tried to edit out my original quote and just leave your answer - let's see if it worked?!

As for posting - you are all have been so welcoming that it is easy to write back and forth with you, but I definitely lurked around for a while to see if anything horrible was likely to happen! Getting up the guts to actually write a fic and post - now that is daunting. But I have a feeling you all will cure me of that too.

And Hello back to Meg - it's great to meet you Spin3

I know how you feel GoGirl.
Trust me now that you have let it slip that you "might" be interested in writing there will always be someone around to lovingly prod you. animewink

It may not come at first, since you need some time to adjust to posting, but it will come. This Owl will always be there to support you. (That is what the Owl does best for her team. That and maybe offer a few suggestions to encourage new stories. Winknudge)

Now that you mention it cd, I did see a lot of sticks and whips in my perusal of the rubber room. Swans are fierce when they want to get something out of you, I think. It's reassuring to have an Owl around!

CD, you have no need to feel insecure! We have all enjoyed the stories you have posted, and we are eager to see more of your AU. I don't know about me being the expert at confidence, but I will admit to being eager to see more fics. So really, I'm just being selfish when I push you to post. Smooch2

Recently we've had a few people say that they have lurked and finally gotten up the courage to post. This makes me so happy! I'm so glad that you felt that this was a place you could join in, GoGirl! Huggles

This place, while slightly overwhelming and (perhaps overstimulating - ha!) in scope, is definitely proving to have friendly birds in the nest. I really appreciate everyone's efforts to make this such a warm welcome. Thanks

I am however a little concerned that I am starting to feel a bit addicted . . . is this normal? Will it wear off? (I've been reading all sorts of things today - of course I do have the day off so its not like its interfering with my job . . .yet.)

Oh yes this place is very addicting. And hopefully it will not wear off and will not interfere with you job either. Jumping

From my own experience, it does not wear off. Whether it's "normal" or not is another matter...

Posted by Springie on 05-07-2008 at 02:18:

Oh GoGirl...you are definitely one of us now...if this tells you anything, I've been around for two years now...and still going strong!

As much as I love Gatch, though, I think it has something to do with the great, supportive gatchamaniacs around here...Grouphug

It's normal, but eventually you will have read all of the past posts and then you will have less to 'update' on all of the time. Wink

Doesn't sound like it. sounds like you all had fun at Snzk J with this newbie. Pity I wasn't there, oh well, my lounge (front room) looks very nice anyway.

Finally, the much lauded and clearly revered Met appears! Now that I've had two days to acclimate, Frisking by an Eagle does not sound like suck a bad thing. I might frisk back though (TJ properly reminded me of the power of the Swan in Eagle-related situations).

It's nice to meet you, Met!

Morning, afternoon and evening and that's Sunday over. If nobody has made you mad yet, don't worry, I will do it for you......of course there's a fee and everybody here's knows that fee will be paid in pints of beer and it will all go on somebody's tab.
