One (Rebellion - really bad fic), she croaked at the end, and isn't posted anywhere because I hate that fic, and the other (War2) was scrapped because of the whole "Swan pregnant - we're sick of it" thing ...
One Night was only a pg scare on the part of the Eagle - she didn't even know about it, but she wasn't pregnant ...

I personally love Red Impulse/Cronus - in fact I love the whole Rangers team - which is why I have my beloved Shinji as a Ranger ... Buffy and I even did a great sparring scene between her Snake and my Red Impulse ...
People hate Red Impulse/Cronus because he comes across as an asshole father figure, but honestly ... Ken/Mark are who they are because of him. I don't think Ken or Mark would have been half the leader they were if they had a namby-pamby smoochy-woochie daddy in their lives ...
But that's just me.
One of the reasons I loved the "Mark" comic was because of the Rangers!!

What do you mean SJ....Cronus/RI didn't do anything really for him the way of raising him. Kids can have the genetics of a person, but it's the person who raises them that has the real influence as to how they turn out in life...
Well someone has to like RI...I have nothing against him really, at least he admitted he felt he was not a real father to his son in Gatch and he felt he never could be.
Dr.Nambu was the one who raised Ken as his foster son, I feel he is Ken's real influence, and he would have turned out a harder person if RI had much to do with his upbringing.

RI/Cronus really did give a shit. He protected his son when in battle - something Nambu/Anderson was unable to do. He goaded Mark/Ken when needed, slapped him around a time or two in RI's case, and pushed to teach him to become a harder and more tactical a thinker/leader.
Sure the doctor raised the little guy, but the Ranger was there in the background, coming into the scene when Ken/Mark really needed it.
I never said that RI/Cronus moulded Ken/Mark's personality, but he certainly had a lot to do with what kind of leader Mark/Ken eventually became.
Eventually the man gave his life for the greater good ... Essentially saving his son from sacrifice.
From a non-duty standpoint, sure, he was an ass and totally brain-fucked the poor kid.
For the little time Mark/Ken knew Cronus/RI, his opinion was of a high regard. He never said anything negative about his father; and I honestly believe that Mark/Ken used the memory of his father to become a better soldier.
RI/Cronus stayng in the background after he was ultimately safe for return was better than he returning as "Daddy". Mark/Ken was already creating himself and growing into what he thought his father was, no sense in him returning and allowing his son to see he was, indeed, a different man.
The Eagle really is the Eagle because of the man he thought his father was.
Am I making any sense? I know, it's a fucked up rationale. I'm just making excuses for one of my favourite characters. Of course, that's only my take on it. I know we all have different opinions on it. It's mostly background stuff.

I see where you are coming from with it. But The Eagle had more of an ideal rather than the reality of his birth father. He never did speak badly of him, but in a way he realized he really would have been better off not knowing RI as his father.
I guess I have a different prospective on this, Ken really became his own ideal on what he should be as a person and as a leader in the end. RI may have jumped in when he was in trouble, but it was also because RI was fighting against Galactor too.
If Ken wasn't his birth child I think RI would have done what was needed to complete his mission. He did love him, but he recognized that he was not a father to him.There was a conversation with RI and Nambu that address the parenting of the Eagle...Nambu didn't like how RI stepped in and claimed Ken as his own, and rightly so since RI had left Ken's life to go on his mission (and Marks) and Dr.Nambu raised him as his own.
Remember up until that moment of jun saying that he was his father. Ken only knew RI as a pilot and soldier that was fighting for the same cause.

TBH I haven't really gotten all that much into Gatchaman to completely understand the Eagle's motives. Same can be siad for BotP. I run with only what I know, and from the megre amount of episodes that have been released on DVD's.
I suppose I am drawing my own conclusions, really; or, again, making excuses for/justifying Cronus/RI's actions.
