You're taking an interesting approach with it, FB, and I think it will be very heartbreaking... not that your story isn't already heart-breaking...

I presumed it would turn out okay... after all, we know what happens to the kids... it's still sad though....

Yes FB, I too am waiting to see where you are going with this story.

I love seeing someone elses ideas on how the everyone got to know each other.
And some ideas on the early personalities of the characters we come to know.

I'm nosing through the archives, doing research for a fic, exploring the relationship between Mark and Cronus. We know Mark misses his father and has a bit of a love/hate (frenemy, anyone?) relationship with Cronus. What's less clear to me is how Cronus feels about Mark. Does he love him?

Thanks --

I remember thinking, after re-watching things, that Cronus seems nicer to Mark than Red Impulse is to Ken. Cronus calls him things like "my friend" and doesn't insult the team as much as RI does (if I'm remembering correctly).

IMO there's a lot of leeway on how you can play out that relationship. Cronus seems proud of Mark, but at the same time, he left Mark behind and kept his identity secret (far longer than necessary) while then forming a new family and having a new kid (a son?) on Riga. Or does he love Mark the most and that's why he's hiding Mark, as opposed to the new wife and kid, who he's having at risk by being openly family with them? Heh.

They did a number of really inconsistent things with Cronus's and Mark's family. We learn of Cronus's death in the torture episode in a weird, after the fact kind of way. At one point Mark's at his "brother's" grave but it's the only time that brother is ever mentioned, and there's no knowing if that's a full or half brother. We don't know if Cronus's wife on Riga is in fact Mark's mother or a new woman. (Mark's mother is never mentioned.)

So have fun picking your reality. Smile

I agree with Chris' first view: Cronus doesn't have as much feeling for Mark, seeing as he went off and had another family, while refusing to acknowledge Mark. While Cronus certainly treats Mark far better than RI treats Ken (no 'beat my son bloody' moments) he's still a bit too cocky and arrogant for my tastes. However Cronus did pick up Mark, spin him in a circle and throw him across the room.

As for the inconsistencies, they're there because of the order in which Sandy Frank received the Gatchaman episodes (i.e. completely out of order). SF had no idea of the overall storyline, and was just going with the flow of what they received. This led to some inconsistencies when early on they dealt with the 'Cronus but actually Zoltar' episode (where it was stated that the real Cronus had been killed by Spectra) and then long after that had to deal with the reappearance of Cronus, which they did in one case by pretending it wasn't Cronus (the planes belonged to another alien planet's defense force) and later by just 'forgetting' that Cronus was supposed to be dead. Then, when Cronus actually *should* have died, flying a rocket up into the atmosphere, Zark tells us that he ejected. In space. Riiiiight.

Oh yeah, and let's not forget that episode where Red Rangers show up and they claim that one of them is Cronus... when visually, it's clearly not. Wink

Jason's site has some great information on all of this, but unfortunately I believe it's down at the moment. He hasn't been able to deal with the administration during his illness.

That explains it! I actually went looking for the site to link to and couldn't find it. Hopefully he'll be feeling better soon (not just for the sake of his web site, of course).

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that Jason is still feeling rough. Frown I hope he feels better soon.
