LEAST favorite episode
Greetings to all!
In watching Gatchaman (again for the Nth time) I realized there were a few episodes I wasn't thrilled with. The Jigokillers episode for one--I didn't like to see Ken slap Jun. And I also didn't like Joe slapping her either in the Jiro episode. (She needs to take those guys down a peg). What other episodes of Gatch or BOTP do people not like?
Peace.

I have to say...those are some of my favorite episodes (Jigokillers is my #1 fav., followed by The Bitter Bird Missile ep)...but I didn't like them slapping Jun either! I noticed that Joe hits her a whole lot harder than Ken did...Ken's almost seemed like it was "for show"...like he did it because he would have done it to any of the other guys...so he had to do it to her, too, to not show favoritism. (LOL)I think there are many others who agree...because I have seen several fanfics that deal with the slapping incidents. My least favorite ep is #46...Gatchaman in the Valley of Death. It only has Ken in it...so I miss the rest of the team! Gotta have the team interaction!

It's not as if Jun lacks the capability to hit the guys back. She hits (and kills) Galactors all the time. Hitting each other seems to be a significant part of how the team get along. If somebody knows they were wrong, they don't hit back - it seems to be a team rule.
I always find ep 20, the puppy episode, to be cringeworthy. It has an added cringe factor, as when I was watching G-Force and trying to get my husband to watch it too (he remembered BOTP) to bring back some memories, the day he agreed to watch it with me it was the puppy episode. Now, the japanese version, being in a foreign language, has all that melodrama but it's not so bad if you can't understand the words. The G-Force version, being in english, is banal. So I never got a chance to get him to watch another episode of G-Force with me after that.
I don't think there are any other original Gatch episodes I truly dislike. There are some truly daft ones, like the bowling ball one and the one with the flying rainbow walrus, but I can happily watch those as the silliness fills me with glee.
Gatch 2 has the green neanderthals episode, that's quite poor. Also the pyramid power episode. And I'm not sure about the Jinpei talks to animals episode either.
The Gatch F episode with the cows has to be seen just to be believed. If you follow my website link and go to Gatch F reviews, I have a writeup on it and a number of other Gatch F episodes (ah, if only my NTSC vcr hadn't died). Unfortunately my views on Gatch F are seriously affected by the fact that I haven't got a blood clue what's going on a lot of the time. The storytelling isn't quite as obvious as original Gatch.

I'll admit that the Jigokillers was a good character show spotlighting Jun and showing how Ken feels about her. It's just when Ken goes off and disobeys orders that OK?! I guess if one of the guys had gone off he would have slugged them (except Jinpei--he probably would have got a rap on the head).
I think I would also have to agree the puppy episode was strange. It might have made sense if Joe had rescued a child instead. Although it was good to show how the team cares about each other. But Dr. Nambu though--Yes you have a brain injury--let's put you in a centrifuge!

Mummy is my least fav so far. Telling he kid that his father won't come back if he's not good. I prefer the BOTP version; haven't seen it for a while, so it may have some of the same, but I like how Mark lets the kid blame him and hate him so that he'll really believe his father's dead and get closure. Very early in the series, but especially poignant later, when we realize that Mark probably wishes he could believe his own father was dead rather than torture himself with "he might be alive".

I'd say my least favorite is the roller skating episode.
There are just some things that super secret ninjas should not be asked to do...

Ah yes. I really like that episode right up until they do the rollerskate fight. Up until then it's a great character episode and Jun gets to dress up. But fighting on rollerskates is one of those things that should never be done, like running with scissors - even ninjas shouldn't do that.

I agree with you, Meridian! It was fun watching them skate, and seeing Jun with the clothes...but the "Bird Whip" was ridiculous!
"BIRD WHIP!" LOL...

I will agree that some of those episodes you really need to be in the right frame of mind to enjoy, another episode that I really have a hard time watching is the one with Orian the dog, not sure why it can be a painful experiance. Guess it's just this crazy mind of mine.

I have to agree with you guys on the bird roller episode. The sad thing is, the first 20 minutes of this are FANTASTIC. The night fight in the woods, the plane ride, the character interaction, Jinpei shucking the hero stuff to be a regualar kid, even the time spent practicing at the roller rink. It's the last several minutes that are PAINFUL!!. (Joe still looks hot, though!

I agree...it was nice seeing Jun get to be a girl for once...although they could have let her wear better clothes in the show...and it would have been nice if the rest of the team hadd been there to watch...but I guess they were "on duty"...

I also wasn't too fond of the "Mysterious Red Sand" episode...I found it kinda boring...don't know why...
