Pets

This is the family pet - Hammy the dwarf hamster. He's either a Siberian or a Campbells hamster - I wonder if they're called Campbells because they're condensed?

We've had him for about 8 months. He used to belong to my sister in law, who was advised to buy two of them and then discovered that they fought. She kept the one that sort of asked her to buy him, and we got the active nutter hamster.

So far he's managed to escape from his cage and break his leg, so he's now a three legged hamster. Last night he managed to escape into the sofa, so now our sofa is a bit slashed and mashed. We'd make him pay for a new one out of his pocket money, but we don't give him any. So, in terms of vet bills and sofa costs he's been an expensive little fellow, especially since he was originally free to us with his cage.

He's a little sweetie though. He's only about 4 inches long, he's never bit anyone other than the occasional gentle nibble to see if we're food. But he's a mad little speed demon with no sense of personal safety. He's probably halfway through his lifespan, I do wonder what else he'll get up to.

So, anybody else got any cute/interesting/expensive/funny pets?

I had a hamster once, a golden one..funnily enough called Hammy Big Grin

I taught him to escape his cage, knock down a bunch of toy "guards" and then make his way to the hamster ball on the floor.

A real lovely hamster he was, never bit you and only ever nipped you if he was annoyed but never hard.

The times I used to wake up in the middle of the night with little hammy sitting on my head......it amazes me how he did it as where his cage was and where my bed is, is no small jump I can tell you.

Aww Hammy, bless his soul.

Ohhh! Very sweet Cep! Animeflower

I've never had hamsters, just dogs or cats. Till last year I had a Great Dane, a huge golden dog called Nixon. He was perhaps not very intelligent, but he was very affectionate to me. I was so sad the day he passed away...

Anyway, now I have other two dogs, a Golden Retriever/Irish Setter mix and I've called them Lux and Pax Tongue
Pax it's dedicated to a lovely Canadian lady, who is also a Gatch fan.
Here it's the pix, with the human Lux between them.

We had an iguana when I was younger... along with a hamster that we fed cheese too at the top of his cage. Dad would also get him drunk so it was funny to see him try to get it. Other then that just the usual kittys and doggies.

Thank you! I'll be 33 in November and I took that pic last year. I can really say "I was here the very first time Gatchaman was showed on western channels.". Balloon

Drunk hamster? And another one actually trained to escape?

I can't imagine an iguana being quite so cuddly, but I'm sure they're good pets. I have some friends who keep snakes and I can see the appeal.

Lux, your puppies are beautiful. And you're clearly one of the youngest BOTP fans from first time round - Elvin of course being youngest because of seeing G-Force instead.

I shall be 40 in a few weeks. Bah.

Are iguana would actually lay on the back of a chair and place his head on top of my grandpas mowhawk. That would have been a great pic... will have to see if my dad has one!

Oh no you don't. I've fallen for that and have learned. Bragging about being young gets terrible revenge wreaked upon me. So I'll pass.

I will, however, gush at the puppies! After Mushu was put down (sometimes, life sucks. It was that or live on in agonizing pain for a month), my parents bought a little white Pekingese. She loves everyone. I, however, am now saving for 2 kittens (well, I'd get them from the shelter, but the pet fees will kill me here) so that I can have some animals here. I love them so much.

You know...there's a certain amount of peace that comes with accepting the fact that you will be the crazy cat/fake dog lady down the street. Really.

I've allready told my other half when he laughs at people like that that I know without a doubt that I too shall become one. So I tend to take offense when he does it too much. Sometimes in life our pets are the only thing we can count on.

Absolutely true. Animals have gotten me through some tough times. They need you and love you unconditionally.

Congrats to Springie,

From one of the, ahem, looking around I'd say I'm oldish for this board but not for this fandom. One of the Middle-sters.

And, yep about the pets. Kids sure don't do that unconditonal love, not once they learn you're between them and the sugar cereal, and the one making them go outside. Maybe in another decade, when they appreciate that they got outside while there still was one,...
