Favourite lyrics

I'm not normally a lyrics person. Generally if I like a song it's because of the sound, not the meaning. But sometimes I find a few lyrics that I really like. These are sticking in my memory at the moment.

From "New mistake" by Jellyfish
He knew better that perfume was gravity
Pulling him closer to what could be tragedy
Love is blind, deaf and dumb
But never mind

From "New England" by Kirsty McCall (I know it's by Billy Bragg, but I like her version better)
I saw two shooting stars last night
I wished on them, but they were only satellites
It's wrong to wish on space hardware
I wish, I wish, I wish you cared

So, do you guys have any lyrics that stick in your head? Go on, post some. Cool

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. I think it depends on my mood and which album I was last heard. At this time it's a track from the second Ghost In The Shell album, but it's in Japanese.

I have a few I must admit...

I Swear by all 4 one

And I swear by the moon
And the stars in the sky I'll be there
I swear like the shadow that's by your side I'll be there
For better or worse
Till death do us part
I'll love you with every beat of my heart
And I swear

and this one

i knew I loved you by Savage garden

Maybe it's intuition
but some things you just don't question
Like in your eyes, I see my future in an instant
And there it goes,
I think I found my best friend
I know that it might sound
more than a little crazy
but I believe...

I knew I loved you before I met you
I think I dreamed you into life
I knew I loved you before I met you
I have been waiting all my life

There's just no rhyme or reason
Only the sense of completion
And in your eyes, I see
the missing pieces I'm searching for
I think I've found my way home
I know that it might sound
more than a little crazy
but I believe...

There used to be a ad for Skol Lager which had a group of Vikings just singing the word Skol as a song. But one Viking was having trouble singling along. His friend asked him what the matter was and that one Viking said that he couldn't remember the words.

That ad used the Hagar newspaper cartoon characters. Quite funny I thought.

Ah, the old days when beer was allowed to be advertised on tv over here. There were some really, really good beer adverts. Do you remember the one with the cat and its 9 lives?

I don't think so but I do like the Carling adverts. Sigh, they don't make any good adverts nowadays. And as for the Carlsberg ads, well "they are probably the best lager adverts in the world."

i love the lyrics to Superman by Five for Fighting

I can't stand to fly - I'm not that naive
I'm just out to find the better part of me

I'm more than a bird; I'm more than a plane
More than some pretty face beside a train
And it's not easy to be me

Wish that I could cry, fall upon my knees
Find a way to lie about a home I'll never see

It may sound absurd but don't be naive
Even heroes have the right to bleed
I may be disturbed but won't you conceed
Even heroes have the right to dream
and it's not easy to be me

I keep going back to camp songs for my favourites. So many of the pop songs are about losing things. These are the two that inspire much of my writing, especially the first one.

Today

Chorus:
Today while the blossoms still cling to the vine,
I'll taste your strawberries, I'll drink your sweet wine.
A million tomorrows shall all pass away,
Ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today.

I can't be contented with yesterday's glory,
I can't live on promises winter to spring.
Today is the moment and now is the story,
I'll laugh and I'll cry and I'll sing.

Chorus

I'll be a dandy and I'll be a rover,
You'll know who I am by the songs that I sing.
I'll feast at your table, I'll sleep in your clover,
Who cares what tomorrow may bring.

Chorus

All My Life's a Circle

All my life's a circle, sunrise and sundown
The moon rolls through the night time
Till the day break comes around
All my life's a circle, but I can't tell you why
The seasons spinning round again
The years keep rolling by.

It seems like I've been here before, I can't remember when
But I got this funny feeling
That we'll all be back again
There's no straight lines that make up my life
And all my roads have bends
There's no clear cut beginnings, and so far no dead ends.

I've found you a thousand times, I guess you've done the same
But then we'll lose each other
It's just like children's games
As I see you here again, the thought runs through my mind
Our friendships like a circle,
Let's go round one more time.

Seems Superman is inspirational. I can see the team treading close to this one at times.

"Superman's Song"
Crash Test Dummies

Tarzan wasn't a ladies' man
He'd just come along and scoop 'em up under his arm
Like that, quick as a cat in the jungle
But Clark Kent, now there was a real gent
He would not be caught sittin' around in no
Junglescape, dumb as an ape doing nothing

[ChorusPleased
Superman never made any money
For saving the world from Solomon Grundy
And sometimes I despair the world will never see
Another man like him

Hey Bob, Supe had a straight job
Even though he could have smashed through any bank
In the United States, he had the strength, but he would not
Folks said his family were all dead
Their planet crumbled but Superman, he forced himself
To carry on, forget Krypton, and keep going

Tarzan was king of the jungle and Lord over all the apes
But he could hardly string together four words: "I Tarzan, You Jane."

Sometimes when Supe was stopping crimes
I'll bet that he was tempted to just quit and turn his back
On man, join Tarzan in the forest
But he stayed in the city, and kept on changing clothes
In dirty old phonebooths till his work was through
And nothing to do but go on home
