Thank you
Due to extraordinary disorganisation, me having to go to work rather than taking the day off, and my husband being a bit tired on the day, I didn't get any presents actually on my birthday.
But I'm not upset. Today I am waiting in for a delivery, the approximate weight of which should be 80kg. It will contain a pottery kiln, clay, and some other things like simple glazes.
That's my main birthday present, which I didn't ask for but which my husband thought of spontaneously. Hence I'm not miffed at him for yesterday.

A kiln?! Wow! One of my favorite childhood memories is of a potter setting me up on his stool and running the wheel for me while I made a mishapen little pot (along with a tremendous mess). Pottery is so cool. Such a cool prezzie!

All I have to do is make room for it
Easier said than done. The first plan was to put it in the summer house, but that's got a wooden decking floor which just isn't strong enough for nearly 50kg + clay of kiln. And the summer house is made of wood, which worries me since the kiln's innards will be getting up to over 1200 centigrade and I would be afraid of the whole place spontaneously combusting.
However, now we know how heavy the thing really is, it's going to go on a nice solid concrete floor in the shed. The only problem is that many, many other things are taking up that space at the moment.
So, lots of moving stuff around for me.

Hmm...you have to admit, it would be interesting. But from my experience, making room in a shed can take a lot of work, muscle, sweat, tears, and cursing. It definitely needs the cursing (adds a special flavor).
Good luck on that!

Happy Birthday Meridian!
A kiln? A pottery wheel? How cool is that!
Don't worry I am sure you will find a spot for it. Heck when my husband got his, he built a place for it.

For some reason I thought I read pottery wheel, oops.
But the kiln is still cool.
What kind of pottery do you do?

Ah, if only I was sexy....
I've not been making pots long. But since I don't have a wheel yet, I'll be doing slabwork and coiling. And some experimentation with glaze.
My husband has commissioned me to make mugs for his team at work - he'll have to make do with slabwork ones until I have a wheel, since I don't want to do casting.
I want to look into making boxes and slabwork/bas relief vases. While I have the kiln, I don't have all the things I need to work the clay yet. Nor the time.
But my husband's sly motive for buying me this expensive kiln is that he believes I will be able to sell my pots when I do eventually get kicked out of my job. I'll definitely have more time then to make them.

My husband does pottery. I learned how in undergrad school and I was a disaster on the wheel. I did a couple of slab pieces, which was fun.
However I decided to leave the 3D work to the husband an I will stick to my 2D work.
