Thunderbirds 2086
Did anyone watch this show? It first appeared in the early 80s, and it was anime (ie not like the original Thunderbirds). I was reminded of it while going through some old diaries, when I was home in Greece for the holidays. I looked to see if I could buy the DVD, and...well, I can’t. The only DVD set available costs on Amazon more than 300 dollars (any kind of dollars, it’s a lot!). Then I turned to EBay, but only a VHS tape is available.
So now I m turning to you — any ideas of where to find it? Does anyone have a copy and would be willing to make another copy for me?
P.S. Yes, it’s on YouTube, but, hey, the DVD is different...
TIA!

I used to watch that show as a kid. I tried to find it on dvd a couple of years ago, but was unsuccessful at finding anything other than a really expensive out of region version of the original Japanese anime. I haven’t been able to find a copy of that with subtitles or the English translation that became Thunderbirds 2086. If you do find a copy, please let me know too :-)
In the meantime, I watch on YouTube.

I used to watch it, too. I believe it was on Showtime. I've never looked for it on DVD, also because its on YouTube.
Ironically, I just watched a Thunderbirds marionette movie called Thunderbirds 6 on a station called Comet two nights ago. I'd forgotten how complex those marionettes were.

Going through my diaries reminding me of a couple of other shows I haven't thought about in years: Buck Rogers (will get on DVD, it's very cheap on Amazon), Star Blazzers (it replaced BoTP on Greek TV, so I didn't like it much at the time ), Galactica...
Now I want to watch them all again!

Hi all!
Thunderbirds 2086 certainly was a good series. It tends to be hated by people who are fans-since-childhood of the original Thunderbirds series, but generally enjoyed by people who were unfamiliar with the Gerry Anderson version.
Alas, you are correct that there are no DVD or Blu-ray releases of Thunderbirds 2086 available (At least not legally. There might be some bootleg sets for sale out there somewhere, but I haven't run across any). As you noted, Japan released Technoboyger on DVD a couple of years ago, and even that was a real surprise to see, since the series had all but vanished before that. I do have that set, and it looks gorgeous. They even included the original pilot film for the series as a bonus, and that was a treasure that I had figured was lost forever.
As for whether we'll ever see an official release of Thunderbirds 2086, never say never. Much of that depends on who owns the rights to it now. ITV Studios obtained the rights to most of the ITC Entertainment programs after ITC closed up shop in 1998, and Thunderbirds 2086 was likely one of those programs. ITV has a deal in place with Shout! Factory to distribute their ITC library, with Shout! having turned over most of their video distribution rights to Lionsgate Home Entertainment. So, if you wanted to see Thunderbirds 2086 get a proper release, you might try contacting Shout! or Lionsgate and suggesting it.
And that assumes that none of the rights for the material have reverted back to Japan, which would mean a whole separate set of negotiations to get those rights, all of which could be done if someone really wanted to tackle it.
It might be more work than most companies would want to put into it, but I know I'd certainly buy it if it was released!
James
Thanks Tatsunokofan!
Is the Technoboyger set dubbed/subbed in English?

Hi all!
Sadly, no, the Technoboyger DVD set does not have any English dialogue or subtitle options. It is in Japanese only.
