Here comes the rain again.

Falling on my head like a tragedy...tearing me apart like a gnu in motion?

(What the hell does a Gnu have to do with percipitation I ask you?) I love misremembered lyrics.

Yep kiddies and kind. Another category 3 is dancing its way over the heads of our southern US members. I've just finished hatching down the batches. Lets see what this year's visit brings us. I'm sitting here wondering how easy it's going to be with a scooter baby compared to my pregnant state with last year's hurricane?

I'm expecting the power to go out, as well as some possible tornadoes. I'm not too concerned about myself as we live in a hollow with good drainage and a house ground level well above the water table. Downed power lines will be a bit dicey.

We'll keep you guys updated.

And, hey all of our Florida/Southern Alabama/Mississippi/Louisiana members: Sound off and let us know how you guys are! Pensecola is being pounded again as it was last year. Do we have any of our guys in that area?

SJ Posted this on another site. I'll ressurect it because I thought it was accurately funny as hell:

*******************

Hurricane Categories

Category 1: "Wussy." Street signs blow over, bushes and shrubs are damaged, housecats meow slightly more loudly. Plan for these storms by duct taping your shrubs, kicking the cat, and shaking your fist triumphantly at Mother Nature for throwing such a weak-ass storm at you.

Category 2: "Mildly Alarming." Houses moan, some of the sicker looking trees may fall over, shingles blow off, small children complain. Planning: duct tape all the sick trees you may have on your property, as well as duct taping Xs on your windows. This lets the wind know not to blow the glass in. Purchase bottled water, before everyone else snaps it up.

Category 3: "Deeply Frightening." Houses collapse, mobile homes cease to exist in any normal functioning sense of the word, dogs fart explosively, healthy trees surrender. Planning: duct tape everything on your property, including the dog. Buy plywood and nail it over the windows-after first duct taping Xs over the glass. Purchase bottled water and bleach. This is so if it looks like you're going to die, you can add the bleach to the water and drink it.

Category 4: "Holy Shit." Buildings fall, cars fly through the air, walls bleed, large sea mammals are carried several miles inland, entire regions disappear completely. Planning: Cover your entire house with duct tape Xs to try and fool the hurricane into thinking the whole place is a gigantic window. Nail as much wood as you can find to the outside of the duct tape. Lock yourself and your family and your farting dog in the basement with the bottled water and bleach, and maybe some canned goods, a portable generator, and a gun to ward off looters in the apocalyptic aftermath that is sure to follow.

Category 5: "The End Of The World." All trace of humanity is picked up several yards into the air and converted into bite-sized pieces, the Biblical leviathan surfaces from the depths, hell rises up and swallows mankind whole. Planning: screw the duct tape. Get into the basement and make peace with your God, Whomever He, She or It may be.

Hee hee...I thought those lyrics were "tearing me apart like a new emotion" .......

Hang in there! Hope you are safe!!

Everytime your nearest city comes up in the news, I always think of you. I don't know anyone else in that area.

Ouch, hope it doesn't hit you too hard. I really liked the hurricane category definitions.

Buffy blinks, and crawls out from under her still well-lit rock. Then with a grin, she shakes her fist at the wussy-ass storm!

Seriously, this was a lot better than predicted. The storm lost power just before landfall and twisted to one side just enough to spare most major cities its full force. We got rain all day, a few downed rotton twigs and branches, and only a smattering of flooding from what I've seen. We didn't even loose power at our house, which surprises me as we tend to loose power when a squirrel sneezes. The news soundbite I keep hearing is "We dodged a bullet". I have yet to hear of any fatalities. I have no problems with that!

Anyone up for a drink? I'm serving Hurricanes!

(Blows a kiss at Lola-belle, who she hasn't chitty chatted with in forever)

Glad to hear that Dennis is on his way out and that things turned out better than expected.

You're serving up some Hurricanes?

I would love one! But be forewarned, the last time I drank Hurricanes at O'briens in New Orleans, I'm pretty sure I behaved in an improper manner (or so they tell me).

Oh, Buffy, so glad to hear you're safe.

I'll keep a prayer handy for you for the entire season. Just be sure to check in ASAP after each one, 'kay? So we don't worry unnecessarily?

Glad you're ok Buffy. It's just hot here in Placerville, CA. The main damage to but done will be to my electric bill since I have to run my air conditioner so much. Frown

I'm certainly glad the hurricane settled down before it got to the US. Grouphug

/Buffy wanders in the room, slightly wobbly from spirits.

Thanks everyone!

Boy, I'm glad it decided to behave itself too!

Must say though, alla my shoes are squishy from wandering around in the mud and muck outside for 2 days.

From what I heard, there was one fatality in Ft. Lauderdale when a guy jogged over a downed powerline, unaware of its presence as he was dashing for shelter. Poor guy. Though, if it was my time, I can think of worse ways to go out. That's probably not much consolation to his family.

I'm glad it wasn't worse than it was.

You were lucky.

At least your not in the South China Sea where there are many times more storms than in the Atlantic.

A fact which I have no problem saying I am very thankful for.

I know where my bread is buttered! (Butterside down?)

(sung in a minor keySmile

Beware the force of Gravity,
That draws the bread we have at Tea,
Straight to the ground.
Butter ... side ... down.

I very seldom eat bread and except under certain circumstances, never buttered or marged.

(I did have some last night though, kippers on special offer, 3 for 10p)

(oh, and the duck was £2...)
