Yup. We mess some stuff up (like the recent emminent domain ruling and the patriot act), but if we stick to the true ideals of the country (Standing up and doing something about a wayward government ruling), we can try to fix it. After all, it's part of the Declaration of Independence to do so (to the extent of overthrowing the government, if needed).

I'm sitting here thinking of alla things that I love about my country and being an American...el Norte Americano. What do YOU love about your country? What do you love about being your nationality? You know, whatever? I wanna know more about our differences and sameness..ses.... LOL


Me?
Hmmm...what comes to mind off the top of my muddled head?

I love that my country's ideals are centered around the idea that all are created equal. That anyone with the drive to learn (along with a little luck and good timing), can achieve beyond inborn or societal limitations.

I love that we have a check and balance system that can improve on itself as it goes along through the will of the people.

I love the sheer diversity of the land.

I love the value placed on dog cussed stubbornness and the power of the individual.

I love the ability to speak my mind with generally nothing more disapproving than being accused of being rude or wrong. Not automatically expecting to be shot or arrested is kinda nice.

Several thousand miles of sweeeeeet beaches.

Mr. Rogers.

Seseme Street.

Coyotes.

Timber Wolves.

George Carlin.

Florida Alligators (don't ask)

Buttermilk Biscuits and Black Eyed Peas

My Grandfather

Not having to expect the Spanish Inquisition...(snirk snirk)

The Fountain of Youth and St. Augustine.

The Cherokee and the Creek.

Hmmmm.....

The list can go on and on.....

Knowing that the kids down the street will get schooling and health care regardless of how little support their father pays.

Knowing my son will be forced to read Shakespeare. There will be enough free time that little things like that will have their place.

Worrying about whether my kids will be exposed to things I disapprove of before they're ready, rather than wondering how to expose them to things I do approve of.

More museums than we'll see in a lifetime.

Below 0F one month, and body temperature six months later.

The environmentalists who try to ban pesticides, and the others who teach us how to care for our lawns without them. Weeds on a lawn being okay.

Things I love about my country are...

The long history we have all those wonderful old buildings dating back to roman times and before.

The unpredictable weather (yep im mad!)

The beautiful varying countryside.

The fact our police are unarmed.

The sense of community that still exists (even if it is in only a few places but that is improving)

The different varieties of musical talent.

The list is endless but I dont want to bore you all!
