Summer songs

You know the ones I mean... Thos annoying ones where the tune gets stuck in your mind despite being bad.

So which one do you most remember?

Maybe you were lucky enough not to be affected by the infliction, so how did you avoid it?

You mentioning Agadoo reminds me of another Summer song that drove me barmy.

The Chicken Song (splitting images version)

Kiddies' mini discos have introduced me to...

... The Court of King Caractacus

Among other songs that never end. Agadoo is of course a staple, as is the Macarena and Alouetta and Superman and all those other ones that the Chicken Song is a parody of.

Agadoo? Maybe I shouldn't ask.

Rocket is humming the song they spent six weeks teaching her at school for the graduation ceremony. Hello friend, both my hands I give to you, La-la-laaa, la-la-laaa

Aaa-gaaa-doo doo doo
Push pineapple shake the tree
A ga doo doo doo
Puch pineapple grind coffee
To the left
To the right
Jump up and down hands to the knees
Come and dance every night to the hula melody

Or something.
I'm sure you get the idea.

Agadoo

Agadoo doo doo push pineapple shake the tree
Agadoo doo doo push pineapple grind coffee
To the left to the right jump up and down and to the knees
Come and dance every night sing with a hula melody

I met a hula mistress somewhere in Waikiki
Where she was selling pineapple playing ukulele
And when I went to the girl come on and teach me to sway
She laughed and whispered to me yes come tonight to the bay

The lovely beach and the sky
The moon of Hawaii
The rum calypso sarong
We'll all be singing this song

Agadoo doo doo push pineapple shake the tree
Agadoo doo doo push pineapple grind coffee
To the left to the right jump up and down and to the knees
Come and dance every night sing with a hula melody

Agadoo doo doo push pineapple shake the tree
Agadoo doo doo push pineapple grind coffee
To the left to the right jump up and down and to the knees
Come and dance every night sing with a hula melody

and to make matters worse......

CHICKEN SONG - 17/05/1986
3 weeks at #1 - 10 weeks on chart

Its the time of year
Now that Spring is in the air
When those two wet gits with their girly curly hair
Make another song for moronic holidays
That nauseate-ate-ate
In a million different ways
From the shores of Spain
To the coast of Southern France
No matter where you hide
You just can't escape this dance

Hold a chicken in the air
Stick a deckchair up your nose
Buy a jumbo jet
And then bury all your clothes
Paint your left knee green
Then extract your wisdom teeth
Form a string quartet
And pretend your name is Keith

Skin yourself alive
Learn to speak Arapahoe
Climb inside a dog
And behead an eskimo
Eat a Renault Four with salami in your ears
Casserole your gran
Disembowel yourself with spears

The disco is vibrating
The sound is loud and grating
Its truly nauseating
Let's do the dance again

Hold a chicken in the air
Stick a deckchair up your nose
Yes you'll hear this song in the holiday discos
And there's no escape in the clubs or in the bars
You would hear this song if you holidayed in Mars

Skin yourself alive
Learn to speak Arapahoe
Climb inside a dog
And behead an eskimo
Now you've heard it once
Your brain will spring a leak
And though you hate this song
You'll be humming it for weeks

Hold a chicken in the air
Stick a deckchair up your nose
Buy a jumbo jet
And then bury all your clothes
La la la la la
La la la la la la la
La la la la la
La la la la la la laaaaaaa

Note that "When those two wet gits with their girly curly hair " refers to the two blokes to did "Agadoo". Big Grin

Now I'm thinking of this one by Sting and The Police

Don't think me unkind
Words are hard to find
The only cheques I've left unsigned
From the banks of chaos in my mind
And when their eloquence escapes me
Their logic ties me up and rapes me

De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
Their innocence will pull me through
De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
They're meaningless and all that's true

Poets, priests and poiticians
Have words to thank for their positions
Words that scream for your submission
And no one's jamming their transmission
'Cos when their eloquence escapes you
Their logic ties you up and rapes you

De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
Their innocence will pull me through
De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
They're meaningless and all that's true

[De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
Their innocence will pull me through
De do do do, de da da da
Is all I want to say to you
De do do do, de da da da
They're meaningless and all that's true]
