BotP Appearance!
Hi all!
Ronnie Schell just wrote to let me know he's going to be doing a personal appearance in March to promote Battle of the Planets and other career highlights. If any of you will be in the Los Angeles area on March 12, 2017 you can have a chance to meet Mr. Schell and get his autograph.
He will be appearing at the famous Los Angeles Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention from 10:30am - 4:30pm. It takes place at:
The Reef
1933 South Broadway
Los Angeles, CA 90007
Here is the event's site:

Many years ago on December 16, 2001 we were able to arrange an event at the same show with Janet Waldo and Alan Young. At that point it was to promote Rhino's first two Battle of the Planets home video releases. It was a fun day with a lot of fans and friends who dropped by to meet Princess and Keyop (and Zark!).
A shot from the 2001 show with Ms. Waldo, me and Mr. Young.
I'm sure the 12th will be another great time and I'm going to do my best to be there too. Just look for the other Jason (ha ha) in Zark's orange "7" shirt, hanging around the big star's table.

How wonderful! I wish I could go! Love the photo with you and Ms. Waldo and Mr. Young -- it must have been fun to meet them.

It would be fabulous to be there! But alas I'm oceans away from the event! Can you post some photo's from it? I can't wait to see how they present the revamp of the series and changes they make to it.

Hi all,
I have a small update to the announcement of Ronnie Schell’s appearance in LA next weekend - I’m going to be there with him! I was waiting to say anything until the event runners updated their site, but I don’t know now if they’re going to change anything before the show.
Mr. Schell’s manager has arranged for me to be there to sell and sign copies of G-Force: Animated. I'm hoping to have some action figures, videos and a few other surprise Battle of the Planets goodies on offer as well. We’re either going to be at the same table or have tables beside one another. No matter what, he’ll be able to sign anything that comes from my items.
As noted above, we’ll be there from 10:30am - 4:30pm. Follow those links for more details. I really hope some of you reading this will be there too. I’m certainly excited at the idea of being able to spend a day really being “the other Jason.”
I’ll take photos and report back on how the day goes!
Also... :-)
The other Jason,

Will be there in spirit from Down Under Jason! I like reading your updates even I can't be there.

That's exciting news, Jason! I agree with Ebony--even though I can't be there, I enjoy reading about it. Please let us know how everything goes!

Hi all!
I was a little too tired last night to write about the show, but it went real well. It wasn’t solid activity the whole day, so Mr. Schell and I had a good chance to talk. In between trading stories were bursts of activity with fans showing up for autographs and photos. He had a good variety from his career; Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., Good Morning World, The Cat From Outer Space, The Jetsons Movie, Goober and the Ghost Chasers, The Smurfs and more. Yet the chief billing for this show was for “Jason from Battle of the Planets,” so his two Jason photos were placed front and center on his table.
I had a booth right next to him and I brought a small selection of items from my collection. I have way too many things both from my own collecting activities and boxes of product samples via my old position at Sandy Frank Entertainment. I brought action figure sets, a 12" “Princess” figure (even though we all know it’s Jun!), DVD sets from Rhino Home Video, shirts, temporary tattoos and some promotional stickers. Both of us did fairly well. I came home with fewer items than I went up with, so I was happy.
I think all but one or two of the photos Mr. Schell sold and signed were of Jason. Yay! Some people even brought Battle items from home for him to sign. I was happy to add to his total by suggesting anything bought from me could be signed by “the voice of Jason.” It made me feel better that I wasn’t taking any potential sales away from him, and even added a few he wouldn’t have had otherwise.
The crowd really started to thin out around 3:30 and since the event staff weren’t too strict, we decided to call it a day a half hour early (we were supposed to have been there until 4:30). Most of the vendors had the same idea. It seemed like 4 was the unofficial time to assess the show to either stick it out to 5 or fold up.
The “Reef” venue was a lot nicer and cleaner than their previous one at the Shrine Auditorium. There were probably 100 different dealers with many of them focused on comics. It had an old San Diego Comic-Con feel to it. I was able to take a walk around the floor and found a couple dealers with Gatchaman books (Graffiti, the animated movie program and the two Fantastic TV Collection books - 1 and 3 ) and one with a couple copies of the old Western Publishing Battle comics. Prices on them were decent, except for the Graffiti book at $79.
It was a great day, and I had a blast hearing Mr. Schell’s show-biz stories. I even learned a few new details about Battle and managed to crack him up a few times. It was also fun to meet so many fans of Battle and Gatchaman. There are many more out there! There is a slight chance I may be able to appear with him again in April but it will depend on a lot of factors. I definitely *want* to do it though.
Here are a few photos:

I'll hope to do it again someday! I also really have to thank the staff of the Los Angeles Comic Book and Science Fiction Convention for their help and generosity for donating my table space. I really, really appreciate it. They're great people, go enjoy the show next time!

Wow, Jason! Excellent! Thank you for getting Mr. Schell to "visit" our forum!
