Seasonal Allergies
I hate having seasonal allergies. This year, it seems it's been the worst! I thought they were bad in the spring, but they seem to be just as bad now. What makes it worse is that I never had ANY seasonal allergies until I turned 40 and now it seems like my body is making up for lost time. UGH!!
I'm taking things but it's not helping. And then about a month or so ago, I had a sinus infection along with the allergies.
I wish it would hurry up and freeze or frost or whatever it needs to do to kill all the weeds and make this stop.

Living in the area of the U.S. that's the worst for seasonal allergies (Documented fact!), I feel for you! *Ah-choo! sniffle* I've had to switch meds a couple of times this season because they just didn't do the job for very long.
This might seem like a stupid question, but have you seen a doctor about your allergies? Sometimes the answer is in a prescription strength, or taking a combination of a couple of OTC's at the same time.
At any rate, I hope you hold on until the first hard frost!

Amen! I always had a harder time in the fall than in the spring (ragweed)...but since I moved to a desert climate I am doing better.

My list of allergies keeps growing.
The allergist told me our bodies regenerate all of our cells - except for the major organs- every seven years. That's why we grow out of allergies (the new cells erase out the old allergy) and gain new ones (the act of repeating the process causes minute DNA changes that make us susceptible to new allergies). It is also why we age. The repeating of the process causing the minute DNA changes breaks us down.
If they could figure a way to stop the minute DNA changes, could we live longer?

I'm also thinking of doing shots after this year. My allergies have always been bad, but this year has been particularly awful. I like the Death Star comparison! I'm going to have to remember that.

During really bad bouts, I have to double or triple up on my allergy Meds. An antihistamine and a decongestant in the morning, and a different antihistamine in the evening. Everyone is different, bu the combination that works best for me when things are really bad is Allegra in the morning and Zyrtec in the evening. Nasal rinses, while annoying, help too.

Amethyst: Those are the two I take too, although I generally don't take both in one day. Claritin does nothing for me. My primary care doc added singulair tablets. And, as much as I hate to agree with you because I hate doing them, nasal rinses are helpful.

In the spring, I was doing Allegra and Nasacort. Now, I'm doing Allegra, Zyrtec, and Nasacort. That seems to be helping. Claritin does nothing for me, either.

This appears to be the year Claritin decided to go on strike -- nobody I know has had success with that stuff this season!

I'm feeling lucky. I usually get by just with benedryl, and I'm fortunate in that it doesn't make me tired or hyper. Sometimes I've considered adding something else but it's never gotten bad enough to push me to that.
My primary allergies last time I was tested (a decade ago or so) were dust and dust mites. No shots for them. I think my seasonal have gotten worse, though. Might be worth a re-test.
