The USA personified.

This came up on my FB page today, and I found it quite an amusing read, but at the same time couldn't help wondering how accurate it could be...

so c'mon guys, weigh in with your thoughts. is this right? if not, how would you personify the various states?

Speaking of South Dakota, that's probably a more romantic description than reality. Reality would be that South Dakota are twins--East & West River. West River looks more like the article description. East River thinks it's better than West River, but West River is more attractive to look at, is more fun to be around and is very creative. East River is the person you hang with until West River shows up and then you gravitate towards West River because West River is more interesting.

BTW, I live East River, but my heart is in West River. The "river" in question is the Missouri River.

Since I was born in Wisconsin, the only quibble I have with that description is that Wisconsin would be at minimum, 10 beers ahead of you, and is probably wearing a Green Bay Packers' jersey. The brand of beer is actually irrelevant, unless you're a craft beer junkie.

Well, Kentucky wouldn't be sipping Bourbon -- they wouldn't dare break the red or blue seal on the bottle 'cause that would show disrespect to their favorite college basketball team. (Red is for the University of Louisville, blue for the University of Kentucky.) University of Kentucky fans would actually gun you down if they thought you were "dissin' the Cats" (Kentucky Wildcats). They'll mortgage their house so they can br buried in a UK-styled casket while wearing a UK tracksuit while holding a basketball signed by Adolph Rupp or Joe B. Hall. And they tend to drag their own couches into the street and set them on fire whenever UK wins a game, loses a game, plays a game, doesn't play a game... (Why? Maybe a couple centuries of inbreeding? Not even the Kentuckians can say why they have the irresistable urge to get up off the couch, drag it outside, and torch it!)

As far as the portrayal of Indiana goes...well, I don't think it's quite accurate. The only people I've heard complain about it being illegal to buy and sell alcohol on Sunday are folks from other states. (Hey, God gave us six other days in the week to stock up!)

Indiana has a split personality -- northern and southern. Most of the people responsible for the idiotic things that pop up in the news now and then come from the northern half. (Stuff like Dan Quayle, the "Religious Freedom Act" that allows businesses to descriminate against gays, etc.) The southern half can claim more positive things. (Sherman Minton, Red Skelton, Orville Redenbacher...my home town of New Albany has had a fairness ordinance since the 1990's...several movies such as "A League of Their Own" was filmed here -- the baseball field used in that movie is a few blocks away from the facility where I'm recovering.)

LOL ... Growing up in FL, the FL one just makes me laugh. FL certainly does have its share of rednecks but a huge % of Floridians aren't actually FROM there (including me).
