Unexpected bonus

For just over a week I've had the front of my place decorated for Halloween. (And for the sake of disclosure: I had some help, since it's simply impossible for me to reach very high from my wheelchair.) Anyway, I didn't expect some of the reactions I've gotten -- I don't have anything elaborate or gruesome up.

For example, a UPS delivery man was coming up the sidewalk, looking at the scanner in his right hand, punching a few buttons with his thumb. He looked up before he reached the door stoop and came to a startled stop.

Heck, I've even had police cars -- which usually just drive past while on their regular patrol -- stop in front of my place and stay there just long enough to make a call to headquarters!

Here's the cause:

That is real crime scene tape -- not the stuff that says "caution" that you'd find at construction sites, and certainly not the stuff stores carry for Halloween that says "Boo!" or "Danger: scary stuff ahead!"

I didn't expect so many people to not think of Halloween when they come to my door....though I've been having a blast watching them!

How funny! I always love to see decorated houses at Halloween. They are more fun for the trick or treaters! I always try to do a little decorating, too! Although, you may not get many trick or treaters...they may think it's a real crime scene! Glad to hear that your efforts are being appreciated!

I have family and friends in police work. Years ago, I was having a really bad day at work and called a friend to get me some of the crime tape.

I enclosed my cubicle with it. Every time someone either asked why it was there or tried to get through it, I warned them it was a pre-emptive strike because my cubicle was about to become a crime scene with dead bodies.

I can see the police calling it in because they hadn't heard of anything happening at your house, EW.

I must admit I'm fortunate -- the cops here have a great sense of humor!

You should've prepared some donuts and coffee, I say.

When it comes to Halloween, I'm a bit on the fence. On one hand, I have a strong distaste towards every holiday being pushed onto us by chain-stores (the closest we have to All Hallows' is the 2nd November, which is strictly for visiting graves), on the other, during my years in Scotland, I went wild with pumpkins. My boss specifically ordered me to do one every Halloween. I always used to line up my knives and spoons neatly on a folded tea-towel from the biggest to the smallest and then I had my fun. Laugh (Didn't like partying much though)

I enjoy the creativity that so many people put into costumes, decorations, etc.

*sigh* I didn't get many trick-or-treaters last night -- though I think it's more due to the weather than the crime scene tape...we had freezing rain with some snow mixed in! (Not normal for this region.) What made it feel even more miserable was that we had a high of 85 degrees Tuesday (that's about 29 for all you metric-heads!)

Oh well, there's always next year....

Aw *hugs* I can see how people would have been driven inside by that kind of weather! Trick or Treating can be a kind of fickle thing year to year
