A ghost from my past...
Some of you might remember back in April of 2012 a growth had been found on my thyroid and I had to have a biopsy done. Thankfully, everything turned out okay.
Well, this past Friday I had my annual ultrasound on my thyroid. I just got off the phone with my doctor's office -- the nodule has grown, and I'll need to have another biopsy done. (I don't know when yet -- the doctor's ordering it now.)
The stress of what the biopsy might say is bad enough. But I also have the memory of what happened the last time hanging over me -- the procedure wasn't 1/3 of the way done when the local anesthesia suddenly quit working. I'm still not sure how I managed to stay perfectly still with that needle in my throat!

Jeez, that's rotten news. I'm sorry to hear this.
I certainly hope that *this* biopsy goes smoothly EW, and that it comes back with good results. Let us know when you'll be having it done.

I had a thyroid biopsy last year, so I know what you're talking about. Although my anesthesia worked, it still was painful. I hope it goes better this time, EW.

Keeping my fingers crossed that everything goes well for you this time EW.

Sorry you are having such a rough go of it. A biopsy is not fun, hope this one comes up clear! Have you had problems with anesthia before that biopsy?

I hadn't had much trouble with anesthesia before, but I also didn't have many procedures requiring it. Plus I didn't know what was used.
I figure I inherited one of my dad's traits -- sometimes he had unusual reactions to medications. For instance, early in his naval career, he'd been injured and was taken to Sick Bay. He was given Sodium Pentothol as a sedative (standard procedure.) He stayed awake for two days.
Hopefully they'd noted what happened the last time and use some other anesthesia.

Be sure and let them know what happened last time. I was told that I have a short half life for anthesia after I came to during a procedure. I always tell them that now and they are constantly making sure I am comfortable.

*hugs* EW, I agree that it's probably a good idea to remind them of your reaction last time. The biopsy I had something like 20 yrs ago was just a needle with no real anesthetic but I do remember that needle in my throat. "Don't swallow." Great, now I want to swallow!!!!

EW lots of hugs, I hope the results are ok, and the anaesthesia behaves!

Thanks for the well-wishes, gang! The biopsy's scheduled for Friday, August 8 at 8:00 am Eastern Time.

I just got back from the hospital. This biopsy went much more smoothly this time -- the anesthesia lasted through the whole procedure (yay), and they cleaned me off better, so my neck's not orange. (YAY! I wasn't looking forward to having a neck that looked like John Boener's -- oh so orange!) I haven't taken the bandage off to see if I have the eagle beak-shaped bruise yet...
Anyway, I'll find out the results within a week. (Keeping my fingers crossed.)

Glad everything went well for you. Hope it continues to go well for you and you get good results back.

I hate waiting for test results. I was lucky this time around with only having to have an ultrasound.
I hope you don't end up with a spectacular bruise (I looked like some had punched me in the esophagus) and the tests come back negative.

Well, Becky, this time I've got a squiggly line connecting each of the punctures. (Though it looked like they put 7 or 8 more holes in my neck than they did the last time.)
Right now, the most annoying bit has been all the people asking me if I've heard anything yet. (It started about an hour after I got home from having the dang biopsy done! Jeez!)

At least they care enough to ask, right?
