Toneman, I left the FB group after seeing your last post. There are many reasons why people would choose to have not have a FB/Twitter/My Space/any social media account. Since, I was added to the group, and do no like seeing attempts to strong arm people into change their mind, yes guilt and pitty are strong arm tactics, I felt it was time to leave.
We must remember we live in an age where anonymity is nearly non-existent. All employers, or anyone really, needs to do is type our name into a search bar, and they can see what we do. Some people are uncomfortable with that, some can have that at all.
Now,I ask you, if It had been anyone but TJ who made that comment, would you have made the effort that you did to persuade that member to join?
We are a small community as far as fandoms go, we share a lot of who we really are behind the screen (more than most other fandoms), in some cases we even know each other in real life. It is because of this openness in our community that we need to respect each other's privacy, when exerted, even more than we normally would.
Our fandom/community is very lucky, despite our size, we are strong. We are strong enough to endure fandom blow-ups that could have killed other similar communities. We have some amazing BNFs, real BNFs, not just long-time, active, popular fans; but what holds us all together, is we all treat each other with the same respect.
Iwe are lucky on this site: Cep allows us to promote what we are doing on in the fandom, or out, on other sites. Many other groups like this one are not so lucky. But we should never try to guilt, shame, or pressure any into joining us of site. It's okay to invite, but we have to respect No when we here it.

Yes, I would have. I was being facetious... I know TJ refuses to join Facebook, as do lots of people. I agree with you on the fact that there is no privacy anymore, hence, I use a screen name on Facebook... others are able to do the same, as long as it sounds close enough to a real name to slide. I did not mean to offend you, I was merely putting on a show. I'm a showman by nature, who loves to get a rise from the crowd.... (go check out Willim Skaynk on fb... another alias of mine...) Please come back to us... I cry your pardon, Sai. I have forgotten the face of my father, and I humbly ask you to join us again.
I honestly thought TJ would read that post, and laugh her butt off, and promptly tell me no again. I expected as much.
Please come back to the fold...
Had I thought I would truly offend, I would have stayed quiet.
I've been on this page for a few years, and I consider you guys as true friends.
It's not good policy to make your friends mad.
I hope you can pardon me, and I truly hope you come back...

No worries, Toneman, maybe it was just me that took it wrong. I'll think about coming back, but no promises. I was added without consent the first time, and that kind of rubbed me wrong, too, but it tried to shrug it off and give it a chance. However, I do try to keep my Facebook for non-fandom activities, even though I do have fandom friends from this and another fandom on it.
BTW, I'm not Sai.

Sai is a Dark Tower term, meaning sir or ma'am. I am a Tower junkie as well. I've been reading the books aloud to my wife, and sometimes, the Mid World lingo sticks around. As far as the group goes, I personally don't remember adding you; I think one of the other members did, and I merely assumed consent was there. I don't make it a habit to add folks unless they ask.
I hope you come back, but I understand if you do not; there will be water if God wills it... (another Towerism...) Things are starting to pick up, and we've started a round robin fic.... (this oughta be good...) we have almost 30 members now, and I get requests to join almost every day. We are growing at a good rate, and the fun is just beginning...

Thanks for the explanation, Toneman! I spent years in the HP fandom, so I thoroughly understand how the lingo can make it into everyday vocabulary.
My daughter is addicted to Supernatural, I never know what symbols she'll drawn on her when she comes home; yet she wonders why I won't consent to taking her out of state to get a tattoo. She can wait till she is 18 and can afford to pay for it herself.

Toneman, as you know, I have multiple reasons for not wanting to be on Facebook, and as you correctly surmised, that's not going to change. I appreciate your offer (and did find your plea amusing) but Amethyst is right that it's not really something that should be pushed when I've made it clear it's not going to happen.
We all have our different places that we like to hang out on the internet, and I think it's great that Gatchaman is represented in so many of these different areas. Toneman, the Facebook group is yours, and you can make it your own, put your own stamp on it. You don't need me for that.
Amethyst, I appreciate your comments, and your eloquent response.
