Here I go again. Yippee.

Thursday morning I'll be going back to the Wound Clinic. Again.

And it's for the same spots as before -- the arch of my left foot and the back of my left leg. Again.

But this time there is a difference -- I have a CROW boot to work around. (CROW = Charcot Restrictive Orthotic Walker.) It's the black, monstrous thing I described in "Goons and Guitars". It completely immobilizes my foot and ankle to prevent the bone structure from collapsing. That means there's very little room for bandaging. And, to top that off, no air gets in there, either. (I know that's what caused the sores to erupt. I tried to go without wearing the boot so the skin could air out, but it turned out to be too little too late.)

I'm just hoping for a workable solution that won't take several months or put me in the hospital. Again.

Huggles EW.

I wish you didn't have to keep going through this. I hope they can come up with a better solution this time.

*hugs* EW ... hopefully the doctors can advise on some other options. Maybe they can add some venting to the boot?

This sucks royally, EW!

Looking forward to hearing that they found a solution that can accomodate the CROW (wow that thing sounds scary!)

Oh, EW. Frown How frustrating! Especially when it sounds like their "fix" caused the problem. Sending lots of hugs~~

I saw Dr. Mehmood at the Wound Clinic. Usually, I don't see him unless the other doctors have tried everything they can think of. (Maybe this time they decided to jump ahead...)

Anyway, the wounds now have Miplex Ag on them (Miplex is a kind of foam pad infused with silver nitrate. The silver nitrate has antibiotic properties that also promote healing.) and everything below the knee has been wrapped up. I must not wear the CROW boot at all, so I must limit the number of times I transfer to and from the wheelchair, and I must be very careful when I do transfer.

I'll go back next week. Dr. Mehmood seems to think I should be pretty well healed by then. Once those places have healed, we'll address the issue with the CROW boot.

Yay, so you got to go home! Perhaps since their boot caused the issue they escalated you to him in apology. Smile

First off, sorry about the double post! (That's a first for me.)

Technically, this isn't their boot; this batch just deals with wound healing. In fact, Dr. Mehmood is an infectious disease specialist. Dr. Ahmed, the podiatrist who operated on my foot in December, is the one responsible for the boot. (Dealing with my health can be downright confusing at times -- it seems like I pick up another half-dozen specialists each time I go into the hospital!)

Anyway, I appreciate all the support you all have been sending my way. Hopefully this will be a short-lived issue!

Hope that you are truly on the mend this time, EW, and that the padding works the way they think it will. Grouphug

The boot seems to have become a double-edged sword. You need it yet it injures you.

I hope everything heals well and they can figure out how to handle that boot or something else.

Well, I went back to the Wound Center this morning. A couple of days ago, there had been an increase in the amount of fluid seeping from the back of my leg, so it had completely soaked through the bandaging just before I got there, and some of the healthy skin became irritated.

Dr. Mehmood hadn't expected this, but it's not as bad as it sounds. We'll continue with the basic treatment, except we're using Aquacel Ag (a more absorbent form of Mipilex) and added some additional absorbent padding Plus, a nurse will come by to change the bandages between trips to the Wound Center.

And so it goes....
