Bionics Go!!!!
I know a lot of you guys are 80's cartoon buffs... since most of you came to Gatchaman through Battle of the Planets.... I was a HUGE fan (and still am) of the Bionic Six (Bionics ON!!!!) I hand the slightest inkling of doing some sort of crossover where Spectra recruits Dr. Scarab for his research in bionic technology to help them reverse engineer the bird style technology.... so the team, along with the Bionic Six, have to rally their forces to stop them....
Any thoughts or ideas? Would it be with a shot to work on this? Would any of you be interested in reading it? Let me know what you think.
And no I haven't forgotten about Episode ten... I'll finish that before I start on this one... still doing my homework. Let's just say ten starts out with a 100,000 plus foot halo jump into the middle of a huge meca/dogfight and goes to the ground forces from there.... how's that for a tease????

No offense taken, Sai... I feel snubbed in no way... I do feel like I'm batting 1000 though... I'm attempting to broaden horizons... I've turned quite a few people in my Dark Tower group on to Gatchaman for that matter. However I am certain that if you guys did check out the Bionic Six you would love it...

Just gotta keep trying. I'm kind of running around like a nut this week, I have to go visit family on Fri until the end of the month so I'm doing all the prep stuff. Doesn't give me a lot of extra time to check out new shows, books, etc.
I do know that sometimes in the past I've been surfing Netflix or something in boredom and came across some show that people here have talked about, and ended up watching it. Sometimes the seeds just take time to take root!
Everyone seems kind of distracted lately, too. Might be the time of year.

Heard of it
Watched it - sometimes...
It suffered from the US Cartoon habit of the characters ending up learning something in each episode and never re-visiting that lesson in subsequent episodes...
I was (and am) far more interested in the longer story arcs...
Though - as the character ideas go - these were some fairly interesting incarnations.

Not everything has to be so deep and philosophical... no one can just let a story be a story. A big problem with our society is that we stimulate intellectualism, yet fail to curb emotions. We have the knowledge of the world literally at our fingertips... but knowledge without guidance or instruction is merely trivial facts. We read too much into some things... and we forget about the fun parts... we haggle over why Joe jumped in front of that missile... was he trying to make amends for some wrong he had committed? Was it to sacrifice himself to be a martyr or a hero? No... he had heart and just wanted to save that poor puppy. Tatsunoko and Shakespeare weren't trying to be philosophical... they weren't trying to save the world. When it comes down to it... they just wanted to make money. Plain and simple. Who cares if they learn anything... or have a long drawn out InuYasha love story.... just sit back and enjoy the ride. You'll get a headache if you nitpick every detail and pull of apart... that takes all the fun out of it.... ::blows the smoke form his guns, and reholsters them calmly::
I cry your pardon, Sai.. but I speak true... long days and pleasant nights to you, and I hope we are well met on the path....

I guess a crossover would be a bad idea... unless a smutty mass orgy were involved...

And the same thing can be said about the characters from Battle of the Planets... it was just a cheap bastardization of a classic gem... Casey Kasem?? Really?? Not that G-Force was any better.... what did they learn from Zoltar? Or 7 Dark 7 for that matter? Tell me how BOTP was any better than any show that aired back then? Hell even the SuperFriends was better than Sandy Frank's chopped and screwed animatic antics...

I've discovered a new found appreciation for Battle of the Planets since discovering Gatch though, I mean, hasn't it brought the fandom together, since most of us started with that in the first place?
I know if I'd never watched BotP as a kid, I wouldn't have discovered Gatch, and wouldn't be here now....

You say true, Sai. I supposed I felt that reobekah's post was somewhat condescending... I don't think it was intended to be.... however I do have a tendency to shoot first and ask questions later... cry your pardon, Sai...

Everyone has their own preferences. As a writer, I can tell you that even if a writer doesn't have a deep philosophical idea behind what they're doing, when it comes to something like Gatch they were definitely putting more thought into it than they would for a show that was purely episodic. Note that I don't use words like "better" because entertainment is entertainment, it's all about what the individual likes. I also tend to enjoy something with a broader story arc like Gatch and BOTP, and it's frustrating to me when characters seem to develop amnesia between episodes of any show and completely forget things that happened before. I don't think that thought (same as Reboekah's) is condescending, it's just a personal preference.
All that said, I know I tend to overthink a lot of things, and it's easy to overanalyze something that might have been created just for fun. That aside, I enjoy as a writer deconstructing shows/books/etc that I really like to understand how they tick. It's just plain fun!
Gatch and BOTP each have their own, individual charms.

Sorry if I came across a little abrupt - lots going on in life right now...
Let's just say that I was the wrong demographic for Bionic Six - being in a PhD program at the time of first broadcast and busy with two jobs. So my time was precious and if a storyline did not pull me in, it was relegated to being on in the background when I was somewhere near the television.
I have similar reactions to BotP, ThunderCats, Ulysses 31, Dungeos and Dragons, Mighty Orbots and all of the other series of similar series of the mid 8i0's. Didn't stop me from watching them as time permitted - but only BotP, Macross, and Voltron captured my attention from a potential story-telling angle.
Yes - BotP did follow somewhat of a formula for each episode - but there were clues of a larger and more complex universe lurking in the shadows of the characters and situation.
Back to my dual role in real life!
