In the Closet...

How many of you guys are closet Gatchamaniacs??? Would your family and friend look at you funny if they knew your secret obsession with this really old school kick ass show??? Me?? I'd rock a Gatchaman t shirt and hoodie every day if I had one. But alas I don't. So I have to settle for Batman gear and my Joker shirts....

Well, since I always occupied at least 5 places on my dad's "10 Most Hopeless Cases" list, it wouldn't have really mattered how much I expressed my Gatch feelings...but, looking back, it was a good thing Dad wasn't aware of my Gatch obsession, because it would have made my DVD collection a target for my lousy sister-in-law, who took off with my Doctor Who paperbacks, my TARDIS bank, and many other items that were important to me (like a doll my grandfather gave me, some of my adaptive equipment, etc.)

most of my family know, or at least have a good idea about it, but it doesn't bother any of them. they don't see my fics although it wouldn't be hard for them to see most of what I've posted.

Anything I've done that I wouldn't want them to read I've rated as adult over on Gatchfanfic, or is on here in the rubber room, so they would need to sign up for an account and I really can't see any of them caring enough to do that.

My family knows and they share in it to some extent, although not nearly as much as I do! But yeah, it would be hard to hide when I wear my Gatchaman costumes at cons. Wink

And I have an Eagle on my keychain. But no one has ever commented on it.

TJ, Do you enjoy costume plays? Is that mean if I google I could see your picture in the Swan costume?? I'd love to see it!!

My husband knows I like Gatchaman but he doesn't aware of my secret shrines. He just thinks that I'm enjoying English websites to improve my English.
I used to complain him that he couldn't speak English(because sometimes he asks to translate business e-mails) but these days I do not reprimand him at all. Tee Hee~

My fam knows I like Gatchaman... But they don't quite know the extent of my obsession. They would definitely NOT understand it. My husband knows I draw fan art and that I've written fan fic, but he doesn't know much about the smutty parts...and what he does know...i sayvTJ made me do it ( TJ and I have an understanding...she tells her husband the same thing about me ...LOL )

My friends know I go to Comic con and some of them know I occasionally wear a costume...but that's as far as it goes.

I definitely would not want them to get too nosy and connect "springie" to my real name...it's not much of a stretch, iykwim... Wink

It would appear that Gatchaman is in our blood... and it doesn't look like there is a cure... except for more Gatchaman of course... not that I'd want to be cured anyway....

My family knows. We each have our own obsessions, but we rarely talk about them. It's more like those whispered words, because we aren't supposed to talk about them. Okay, not really that bad.

However, DD and I are thinking of writing a cross-over this summer with Gatch I and a show she is obsessed with.

No Supernatural. We are thinking early canon for both shows. But we are still in the planning stages. The only thing we know for sure, at this point, is it will include some car talk.

Oh, that sounds interesting. I loved the early Supernatural, not so much the last 2-3 years.

I'm not closet, but my husband doesn't like sci fi, so I don't talk to him about it. My son used to be into BotP. Not so much now.

I wouldn't say I'm closet ... heck, I asked my mom to help me with an eBay purchase for a seller who wouldn't ship to Canada (my mom's in the US). My mom's side of the family has the "collector" gene so she just said we've all got our thing when I said "don't mock." Not that she really can. She has a Barbie collection. Smile

My husband is well aware. He's had to listen to me go on and on, and indulges me on it. He used to watch BOTP as a kid but it didn't suck him in as much as it grabbed me. He was more a She-Ra fan. Smile (Kind of a funny reversal when you think about it.)

I do think that I've often kept my Gatch fanning kind of quiet. I think maybe I got picked on in elementary school for liking a "boys' show" and learned to just keep my mouth shut, or I just got funny looks for going on and on about something like I do when I'm into it. No concrete memories, though. The BOTP lunch boxes on eBay look awfully familiar so I either had one or really wanted one!

I've found that I've slowly shared my fan love with some of my writer friends. They enjoy my fanfics even if they haven't watched the show, and/or they enjoy chatting about characterization. If you're used to talking about your own (original fic) worlds, it's not that big of a stretch to chat about other people's worlds. Plus, many of my writer friends have their own fannish obsessions so we cross-indulge one another.

I actually do have a Gatch (II) t-shirt but I don't wear it. I think it's more of a collectors' reason than not wanting to be mocked, though it's not an official Tatsunoko t-shirt so I suppose that's kind of silly, all things considered. Smile

No family, really, my husband turns a blind eye to my collecting, except for the Alex Ross, that was over the "can buy without discussion limit". But he bought it for me for Christmas, which was funny because I was totally bummed that the one I really wanted was sold, only to find it under the tree. Hubby rules! I have two action figures and a t-shirt that I wear all the time (it's a little raggedy now). I would be in the closet, but its full already.Wink
