I finally got my tree down!

At one point it looked like I was still going to have my Christmas decorations up on St. Pactrick's Day. (How pathetic!) How is this possible? Well....

I had my decorations up just before I ended up in the hospital (and having surgery the day after Christmas.) But, when I finally got to come home at the end of January, I couldn't go out to the storage shed to get the boxes to pack everything away, and the weather was too bad whenever someone was available to help.

But, today, things finally clicked. Jessica, an assistant who helps with the housework and runs the occasional errand, helped me take down the tree and put away the decorations.

(Yes, TJ, it's an artificial tree. While I love the real ones, my allergies go into overdrive whenever I have one in the house. Could you ever find it in your heart to forgive me?)

Anyway, I can at least say I'm not as bad as one family who live a couple of blocks away -- they still have their Halloween decorations up!

hey, EW, better late than never, that's what I say, and at least you had good reason for not taking them down sooner.

And BTW, I also use an artificial tree too, I've been using the same one since my boy's first Christmas, and now he takes charge of decorating it!!

Also, if I had used a real tree this year, could you imagine the mess? drama

Congrats EW! Surgery and the associated recovery is a hard reason to argue with. Smile A lot of people in my area leave their Christmas lights up all the time (though they don't turn them on all year). My folks thought that was lazy when they visited. I thought it was brilliant. Wink

You could always tell them about the people who still have their Halloween stuff up -- at Christmastime, they just put Santa hats on the bats and skeletons!

Around here, some people keep their lights on their houses all year, only turning them on during the season.

I have a Norwitch pine tree I got 6 years ago when it was only three inches tall. They're slow growing and its now about 3 feet tall. Someday, I hope to use it as a XMas tree.

Way to go, EW! I agree with everyone else ... better late than never, and due to the circumstances you are more than excused!

All of our indoor Christmas trees are bought artificial in our country! LOL ... our tree areas are so small here that, if a tree would be cut down for every family living on the island, we'd end up with a complete barren land! Plus, we do not have places big enough to plant trees only for this particular purpose! The only natural and real Christmas tree-like trees that you could find decorated are those ones which might have been planted in front of villas or terraced houses, the plot permitting!

gatchamarie, I hadn't considered that issue! I can see how the sheer issue of room would be a problem. Smile

We went to a Christmas party this year that has a tall version of Charlie Brown's tree, it looked very cool.

We have artificial trees, too, can't always afford fresh cut tree, and with the dog, they are safer. While real trees are nice, you should never feel like you have to defend your choice not to have one. Heck, I've seen people use Manzanita limbs for their tree. Whatever works for you.

Hey, EW! A friend of mine just posted a pic of her Christmas tree (still up) on Facebook. Her daughters took it upon themselves to decorate it now with colored eggs.

At least those decorations would stand out better than if they'd put on green decorations for St. Patrick's day!

Or maybe even little construction paper trees the kids could cut out!

(Why, yes, I have entertained kids during the holidays! How could you tell?)

But when you think about it, is there really anything wrong with leaving a Christmas tree up? Christmas is meant to be a happy time, a time to remember being a child with a child's wondrous view of the world. Maybe that's what the world needs right now.

EW: Glad to hear you got it put away. Although that idea about keeping your tree up and hanging Easter decorations on it has merit. Smile

Becky: That's probably my favorite thing about being a parent. Seeing the world through my daughter'e eyes - she's 5 - is a rare treat at times and reminds me of what being human is really about - loving and being loved.
