This Sunday is the estate sale. It has taken a lot of grief -- general harassment from assorted relatives and other delays -- to finally get to this point. If I can get at least $55K, I should be able to pay Dad's debts and cover the expenses that went into executing his will.
But now I have another reason to worry: the weather forecast is calling for freezing rain and snow beginning late Saturday night and going on through Sunday. People don't even think of going to estate sales in that kind of weather.
If I don't get the sales I need, the probate lawyer said he'll try to talk the bank into just taking the house, but he isn't too optimistic -- for some strange reason, the bank hasn't been too cooperative. (This makes no sense -- Dad had great credit, and this estate sale is the only way I can get the money to pay off Dad's loan.) And it's the bank's attitude that makes rescheduling unlikely.
So, I've been desperately hoping that the weather system slows down enough to have it arrive a day later, or it stays to the north....anything to let people come and buy!!!

Hugs, EW. I've been following the forecast for that storm track, and if it helps any, I think they are clueless as to where the rain / snow line will fall. Fingers crossed that you get light rain or no rain.

I wasn't able to attend the sale myself (even though the weather wasn't anywhere near as bad as had been predicted, it still wasn't wheelchair-friendly), so I had to wait to hear from the lawyer.
Anyway, the turnout was much better than expected. But the highest bid was $45K. I haven't closed the deal yet -- the lawyer wants to see if he can negotiate with the bank to get them to accept a lower payment on the loan. ("Otherwise," he said, "they'd have to go through the grief of foreclosing and selling the house, and I doubt they'd want to do that!")
So, I hope he can work some wonders..."Unless you want to keep the house!"

So far, the only response I've gotten from the bank is pile after pile of forms to fill out to get them to consider accepting a short sale!
However, given the tone of the last batch of forms, the lawyer thinks the bank will accept taking less money for the loan. (Fingers crossed!)
