Happy American Thanksgiving!

Hope my fellow Americans have a great Thanksgiving holiday this week! Things are a bit crazy around here right now. My mom and dad are in the middle of moving to California to be with the rest of the family. They will be living with us until after the new year so I won't have much time to myself. Frown

I haven't had much time for anything while I've been prepping for them to move in- but I plan to carve out some time to catch up on all of the threads soon!

Springie, let me give you an American thank you Bandit2 for the wishes and the artwork!

(Personally, I think the team would be thankful for having the TV dinners instead of Jun's cooking!) Biglaugh2

What a great pic, Springie. I love the pics in the background too. (isn't the one on the left one of your earlier pics?)

I might not be celebrating myself, but I can still wish all you guys in the states a very happy Thanksgiving!

Ha! I used to eat those Hungry Man dinners! I still miss Swanson chicken pot pies. It was a staple of my childhood when Dad wasn't home for dinner.

Hugs -- Hope time flies, Springie, and that your children enjoy their close time with their grandparents.

Thanks for the well-wishes everyone! My kids are so excited to see their "Gigi and Poppy"- lots of spoiling is on the way!

KT- yes, one of those in the background is mine *grin*

I was thinking the same thing ... "we're so thankful for these frozen dinners rather than Jun's cooking!" Though by the looks on their faces they look shocked, so maybe Hakase invited them for a nice Thanksgiving dinner and work got in the way so he gave them those instead. Smile

Happy Thanksgiving American friends!

I hope everyone who is celebrating has a wonderful Thanksgiving! We're already celebrating around here, since my kids get the week off from school and yesterday was their last day!

Have a happy holiday. I will be thinking of you this week every time I hear of "Black Friday".

I have already done some shopping in the sales we have here in Canada.

Oh I missed it! I forgot it was Thanksgiving last week (yes, I live in Europe).

Anyway, belated wishes to all you Americans on Gatchamania!

Not really a 'version'. Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving, only it is in October (the same day they have Columbus Day in the US) and lacks all of the 'Pilgrim' aspects of the American celebration.

The other difference I noticed when moving from Canada to the US is that Thanksgiving is a much bigger deal here. In Canada we get a day off and we make a big meal and eat turkey. That's it. In the US, there's this huge obligation to spend time with your family: a heavy societal pressure that makes it nearly mandatory to get together with your relatives near and far and share the holiday. In Canada, that atmosphere is reserved for Christmas. Thanksgiving is a relatively minor holiday in comparison, as far as familial obligation is concerned.

So there you go: a personal opinion from someone who has spent many years on both sides of the border.

Interesting to see the difference TJ and thanks for explaining it. I knew Canadians had a Thanksgiving, but didn't know the ins & outs of it.

Ya learn something new every day! Smile

After moving from the US to Canada, I looked it up. From what I read, both countries' thanksgivings used to be around the same time, in October (the right time for a fall festival). The US govt moved the holiday to late November for commerce/economic reasons.
