My thoughts, and an idea...
I've recently re-watched the OAV - dubbed version - and it seems that the thing that lets it down is the dubbing script itself. It's like a really, really badly written fanfic.
So I was wondering - as... some nameless culprits have done for at least Gatch 2, would it be possible to organise a subbing project for the OAV? How much work would that involve?

I'm not sure it's going to work, Ste. The Gatch II project was done because translated scripts were available. However the Gatch F project has been stymied for lack of translators. Given that you're looking for a more *accurate* translation of the OAVs, I don't know of anyone who could do that, and if I did, I'd be roping them into the Gatch F project.

Sorry to hear the Gatch F project has hit a snag. I certainly hope someone can find a translator so that one day I can "comprehend" the episodes.

I hope the Gatch F project makes it off the ground...
Ste, I haven't watched the OAV in a long time now, wonder if just having the sound off and creating our own words might help it.

The Gatch F project is making slow progress, but it might be a problem when we run out of Gatch F episodes where the Italian -> English translations weren't done. Right now I think what's happening is the Japanese translator is watching the Gatch F episodes in Japanese, and adjusting the Italian -> English scripts where they have stuff left out or weirdly translated. Last I heard, that translator didn't want to have to do the from scratch work on the untranslated ones.
About half of the Gatch II scripts came from someone who had, in better days, actually paid to have the translations done. Gatch is an old enough show that it's harder to find someone who's willing to do the work as a volunteer.
Between the story/character history elements they changed or ignored, and the (mostly) horrible character re-designs, I'm not sure a subbed version of the OAV would be much of an improvement, anyway. *grin* I'll still never forgive them for what they did to Ken!

Ste, I'm not sure about in England, but I just purchased, through Amazon, the OAV DVD that has all three episodes in both subbed and dubbed. The subbed version is better, to me, in that they didn't change the names and less corny.
So there is a subbed version out there.

I don't know about 'more accurate' - maybe just 'better'.

I agree with you, Ste.
There was one line in the second episode after Joe hits the missile button to successfully destroy the weapon that Ken cogratulates him for it, considering he was a beginner. There is no way that can be a proper translation.
