Help giving my mecha a name

Been attempting some writing today and I came up with a scene where Zoltar is watching the testing of a new mecha that is being designed/built.

I thought I had come up with a name for the machine and then Zoltar decided to speak up saying ....

“Storm Mecha?” Zoltar said derisively, “Is that the best name you have come up with for this magnificent machine? It needs a name with a little more oomph, don’t you think? Something that benefits its power and magnificence."

Now I want to follow Zoltar's orders and find a better name for the mecha, but can't find anything that seems to excite the muse. The name might still come to me, it has only been a few hours, but I am hoping you might be able to help me.

Here is a description of the mecha:
The mecha was designed to create powerful artificial, winds, reaching speeds as strong as a force 5 tornado, and lightning. Both which could be controlled and focused by the mecha.

What does the mecha look like?

I hadn't thought about the shape of the actual machine since it is surrounded by clouds.

The Mecha rose toward the clouds and then paused as it gathered the moist air around it, covering and veiling the machine within dark, billowing clouds.

But you are right though, perhaps knowing what the "machine" looks like would help in trying to to name it. I shall have to think on that more.

Hmm ... the following come to mind:

Vortex
Twisted Blade
Tasmanian Devil
Thunderhead
Cloud Splicer
Updraft of Death (hee hee)

Zoltar has seldom given me writing commands, but on the rare occasions he does, I find him far more rational than when I'm writing from the team's POV.

Toranado comes to my mind...and yes I know it's not spelled quite like that but my pronunciation isn't saying it quite the same simple way...

This is the first time I have ever had Zoltar's voice suddenly give me orders. Usually I have Mark's or Jason's voice in mind when I write.

Very nice options for names. Vortex is one I had already noted. Along with Tempest. Maelstrom is something new and I like how Tasmanian Devil would stay with the animal theme Zoltar usually uses.

Little Wolf - thanks for the giggle those even describe the affect of the mecha.

I like Maelstrom, too!

I know the following name isn't new or original, but maybe "Thundra".

On a silly note: Buzz Lightning, or Lightning McCloud! *giggles* that's what watching a lot of kids' films does to you!

LOL ... now I am imagining Zoltar sitting and watching kiddie films/cartoons to help him choose the next mecha to build. That is one way to traumatize an entire generation in one go.

OK then, start watching more cartoons and find out the next mecha designs before they've had time to build them!!!!

Okay, Marie's are the most fun! I love it when they give the mecha silly names! Big Grin

But Maelstrom is a good one!

If Maelstrom doesn't work for you, maybe Typhon?

I am enjoying all the suggestions. As GG pointed out, everyone of them could fit nicely into the story.

am I missing something with that sug. KT? Something tells me there is more behind the name Eddy, and I can't figure it out

An eddy is not just a name but it can also be a tide, or whirlpool. Which would be a good name since the mecha creates swirling winds and creates choppy seas when it is flying over the ocean.
