Avatar the legend of Aang

Has anyone mentioned this?

I picked up some at the market, (No anime as usual, doesnt come up second hand much)

Its great fun.

After being missing for a century the current Avatar is found frozen in ice in sothern polar regions, his destiny is to save the world...but really he want to muck about and have fun.

(Thats not a very good summary)

`Not` anime (And dont you mistake it, otherwise you will be carted off to the secret police HQ under lake Ladogai, and brainwashed out of your delusion)

But its a rollicking fantasy oriental adventure (and who doesnt enjoy oriental adventures?)

It has lots in common with anime...

...Its kids stuff, but there are lots of things to delight more mature kids. (one of the eps is devoted to a haiku competition,) There is lots of grown up stuff (all the characters have to make serious decisions and yes, we do see serious things like refugee problems, bullying home guard, government cover ups...There is a particularly winceworthy scene where the antagonist and his lovable uncle are begging, they get beat up.)

Like anime there can be wrenchingly switches from comedy to drama (This cartoon has some memorable examples, all without losing pace or tension.)

The visuals and the visual detail are great. (Characters sit down to a meal; we can see what they are eating and get a good guess at the dish.)

Are you talking about the live action movie or the anime series?

Yeah. A very entertaining series. The storyline is interesting, characters are well written. Also Azula rules. Her last fight with Zuko was amazing. I wonder how Avatar Korra will turn out.

Zuko was not very antagonist-y though. He was just trying to please his daddy.

Loved Avatar the series, just got better and better as it went on. Didn't see the movie. Am looking forward to the new series.

No, not the movie. Or we will have to call the Rough Rhinos in.

Why does everyone like Azula?, she is an evil SOB and has no real reddeeming features.

"I cant wait to see you top yourself tommorrow" (She is reffering to Ty Lees circus act, but of course being azula there is a death threat in there somewhere....`Legend of Aang` is immensley quotable)

Zuko is a wimp who has to be babysat by his Uncle (But who wouldnt mind being babied by Uncle Iroh?)

Yes, but it's so much fun to watch Azula. (Take the beach episode for example. The volleyball scene.) She's one competent, dedicated villain, who avoids most villains' pitfalls, which makes her so interesting to watch. Though her age really stretches my willing suspension of disbelief.

And goddamn. I want Uncle Iroh to be my uncle as well. We'd drink tea and play paisho all day long.

Also, Earth king Kuei is also quite cute, with those little glasses of his.
