Samurai Champloo

The latest series from the most awesome Shinichiro Watanabe (of Cowboy Bebop fame).

It's a series which is still currently airing in Japan, but will be out on DVD in the States around January of next year.

Where as Cowboy Bebop seemed to focus on Jazz music, this series seems to focus on hip-hop music. Basically, it's a series set in Japan around the mid- 1800's. It's about two badass Samuari named Mugen and Jin. They couldn't be any farther apart in terms of personality. One is headstrong and instinctive while the other is cool and collected. They play off each other very nicely. The other character is a girl named Fuu. She basically helps Mugen and Jin escape in the first episode from being executed for a crime they really didn't commit. Anyways, afterwards she enlists their help to find a Samurai, not just any samurai, but a samurai that "smells of sunflowers".

It's a very cool series, not quite up to the level of greatness of Bebop, but still is totally excellent. In my opinion, Shinichiro Watanabe can do no wrong...

Sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out. I'm assuming it will be subtitled? (as opposed to being dubbed)

I've only seen images on the web for the show. Something like 17 episode so far right? It does look pretty badass from the character designs and if the storyline eventually pulls you in like Cowboy Bebop, sounds like a winning combo. I can't wait to check it out when it finally comes States-side. Big Grin

Yeah, it'll of course be subbed. I got all of the current 17 episodes from Bittorrent, but I'll most definitely be buying the DVDs when they come out early next year.

Ooooh. I've seen screen-caps for this. Looks really cool. If the dub is anything like the Cowboy Bebop, though, it'll be pretty good. Studios are *definitely* improving here in the states (I LOVE the Pretear dub). Pretty soon, we'll be able to forget dubs such as the atrocity of Record of Lodoss War. ^_^
