Yeah, you just know there are fun jokes being made in them... if only we could understand them.
It is nice to see something -anything- new being made with the Gatchaman characters -shows that they're still very popular!

The series has proven to be very popular in Japan, even though some of the longtime fans over there haven't warmed to it. Part of the problem with many of the jokes for me is that they are so self-referential. A lot of the people's faces you see pop up in episodes are of hosts on the morning show that Good Morning Ninja Team Gatchaman appears on. They're making fun of their personality traits and those jokes fall flat unless you have some previous knowledge.
I think one of my favorites for the whole series so far has been the installation of a new Bird Missile firing system that calls into an automated phone system when the button is pushed. It then wastes time by asking *very* specific questions about how many missiles to fire, when to fire them, etc. Some frustrations are universal.
