Why did they switch the Gatchaman theme?

As you well know, there are two songs for the Gatchaman theme, the one sang by the chorus and the one sang by the man. I apologize for not knowing their names off the bat.

Anyhow, I noticed that the series starts off with the chorus version and closes with the male version. In Episode 23 (The Mecha Ball), they switch and have the male version as the opening song for the rest of the series. Why did they suddenly make the change?

I notice that the male song actually seems to match the visual credits better than the other song did. Was a mistake made initially? Does anyone know the story behind this?

I don't know the story behind it, but I do know that the Dare Da song is very popular in Japan, more so even than the Gatchaman series itself, in some cases. It could be that people preferred the ending song better, and were associating it more with Gatchaman. It's certainly more fast-paced and injects more excitement at the beginning of the episodes.

I have read that it was because the series was attracting an older audience than initially anticipated, so they swapped the themes to reflect that. Adult at the start, kiddies at the end.

Interesting thoughts and speculations. Thank you both. It seemed like such a random change, on a random episode. I like both songs, but the Dare Da song by the man really is very cool! But like I said, it actually seems to fit the on screen visuals better too, nearly as if it was intended to be the opening song before they went with the other one when the show began.
