This is just *wrong*...

Yes, it's Condor Joe! Or is it Ryu the Owl? I can't tell...

Ugh...

(Yes this is a real toy, manufactured in 1973.)

You are right that is just wrong.

Hmmm, maybe it is an early edition of the Mallard that Thunderbird drew. (I am trying to remember some of the other bird avatars that TB drew that might have had brown or green uniforms.)

1973...

Here's my theory: in the second season of Gatchaman, there was some talk about adding a new character to the Team either for variety or for some plot twist that never made in past the planning discussions.

Thus. the original plan was to keep the "G-6" character -that nameless guy in episode 60 "Science Ninja Team G-6" alive at the end of the episode...

And would have have joined the Science Ninja Team as...

G-6, Toshiro the Wood Duck! Laugh1

Fortunately, this plan was scrapped and a vow was taken amongst the Tatsunoko staff never to speak of it and all planning sheets were burned. Unfortunately, it was too late to retrieve some designs that had been sent to the toy company that was sponsoring the show...

You crack me up, LB!!Rofl

TJ ... you're right ... that's so wrong! I don't know why but I'm also having the impression that he seems ready to do some gardening with those seemingly green wellingtons and plastic green gloves!!

LB, you have quite the imagination .... and gave me a good laugh this morning.

I like that wellington comment, Marie. Once you mention it, they do remind me of them.

I love your train of thought, LB! You even had me going there, for a second... Wink

The thing is... they had a Ken doll that looked pretty similar. I've seen it. The difference is, Ken had the correct colors.

I never thought of those boots being Wellingtons, but... yipes! That's pretty accurate!

ETA This is the accompanying Ken doll.

Other flaws (head too big, legs too short, no capes) aside, I think they really should have toned down the lip colour -on Ken and the mystery character. Everyone knows that Katse's the only guy on the show who wears lipstick!

It occurs to me now that CD's reference to mallards got me thinking about ducks, but possibly also because his uniform's colours made me think "aquatic..."

Posted by littlewolf on 08-04-2011 at 18:36:

I has having issues with the neck or lack off, now I keep think of the shade of their lips and the fact they was a little heavy on the upper eye lid pencil and mascara

plot bunnys (ninja animals trained for air, water, and land attacks)
now how about for G6.... "Flipper" he can be cllassed loosly as a Flying fish (yes I know he/she is a dolphin) but if "skippy" can fly a helicopter
(what's that skipper sonnys in trouble...")...aussie joke, we have damb smart animals over here

okay its 4am over here and aquaman made me start to think strangely, mmm I wonder if Marine boy is aquaman ilegitemate son...a story for keyop perhaps..with scooby doo like sillyness
Cobra Dazzed

You know LB, those are the right colours. Except Aquaman did not have a helmet like that doll did.

LW, you could add Keyop to the Teen Titans, except for the stuttering I am sure he would fit in very nicely.

I agree. You can either tone down the speech issue, or make a running gag out of it depending upon how serious you want the story to be.

Hee, poor Jason!

Visually, Scooby Doo and Battle of the Planets certainly blend very well, with the 70s styles of clothes and everyone wearing the same outfits, all the time, no matter where they are.

I wonder what Scooby would think of Zark. Zark would probably conclude Scooby's a robot dog with much more sophisticated programming than 1-Rover-1, and try to feed him wrenches or nails.

Still say the Scooby team could take Zoltar.

Too funny! My guess is that this particular Ken doll wouldn't be very particular about the fact that it's the Gatcharooster God Phoenix!

Yes, he's in no position to complain about its aesthetics!

Though the Ken in the ad looks quite good...

Somewhere, Ryu was probably thinking "I'm the pilot -why am I not in the ad?"

(Sorry, Ryu. There's a reason why the show is called "Gatchaman.")

Good point! I wonder if any little kids were protesting "Rip off!" when they discovered their new toy didn't actually engulf in flames?
