Feeling alot of guilt and need opinions on this matter

I've made roleplay accounts for fictional characters on Facebook and Myspace, and of course, I upload pics of the character such as screen shots and promotional artwork and the like, and I've also done this with pages and groups I've created on Facebook and groups I've created on Myspace, and some of the pics I've uploaded to these accounts are screenshots I've took myself, but I've been thinking about how I've uploaded all these pics and I realized I had never asked permission from the person who owns the site/blog/whatever that I got them from, and I feel alot of guilt. I even set all my photo galleries of fictional characters, music groups I like, etc. to private so only I can see them on Facebook, because I'm feeling heavy guilt for not really asking permission to use those pics. I'm not sure if I even had to. I don't know if I can even still reach the owner(s) of some of the sites/blogs/whatever that I got these pics from. And I worry about what effect this will have on me when I die. And I've also made Photoshop edits with some of the pics I've found on the net. And I've also uploaded pics that are probably fanart but don't know who drew it and uploaded it anyway assuming whoever drew it won't mind (including fanart I've nabbed from japanese sites). I'm just feeling alot of guilt about this, and I just want some thoughts on this from my friends here, because I know there are people here who love me and care about me.

For what it's worth I got into a fight with one of my cousins over her taking credit for a photo that I gave her. Copyrights are touchy things and photographs and artwork are inherently copyrighted.

If I were in your place, I'd take down any work that you don't have permission to display and work that you do, should be credited to the person who did the work.

Good luck!

What about the screenshots and the promotional stuff?

Just send the people an email requesting permission to use them. If you're feeling guilty than its the best thing to do. If they ask you to remove them then do so and apologise for it- plus recognising that its not your work is the best place to start on the sites and blogs that you've started, (and good manners too.)

Well for some of the pics, I'm not sure if I need to. For example, this Sailor Moon picture:

http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/155535_1320560714408_1842526268_585115_4117924_n.jpg

I've seen this pic on several sites at different resolutions and/or qualities. Still I'm feeling guilty about it for the reasons I stated, plus I don't even remember where I got this copy of the pic from.

Another thing I'm feeling guilty about lately is those 8-bit versions of popular songs that I've been making from MIDIs. You remember that 8-bit version of the Gatchaman theme that I made? I feel guilty about using that MIDI file to make the 8-bit version without permission (plus it was on a japanese site too that I found the MIDI). And I feel the same way about the 8-bit versions of the other MIDIs I found without permission. Plus I don't even remember where I got each of the MIDI files. Or if the email for each site(s)' owner is still active, and I'm not sure if any of the sites are even still active either. I think I bookmarked ALL and not just some of the sites, but I don't remember where I got each one, and don't remember the addresses off the top of my head.

Sometimes tineye.com helps to find the sources of images. For example, it gives 135 results for that Sailor Moon art.

Even without permission you may always give the link and/or write «I don`t know who the author is, but I like this picture. If you know the author, notify, pls, because I don't want to break copyrights ».

I don`t see the problem if you don`t sell them. BTW, converting from one audio format to another is just «one-click work» for fun. And again you may write «I don`t know who the author is…».
