I just saw a commercial. They're bringing back the Power Rangers. I thought that franchise had died a few years ago. This version is called Power Rangers Samurai.

Even my son, who used to be a big fan, cringed.

But then..... Gatch is much better than a lot of things!

Well, any rebirth of Gatch better base on the original series, not the OVAs.

I agree with Springie. Why on earth would anybody want to bring Power Rangers back instead of Gatchaman? Gatchaman are alot more badass. I recently came clean with my hatred for Power Rangers on another message board about a month or so ago. It also makes me sad that there are still people who actually watch them!

As UW said Power Rangers had a lot of different series running for many many years 15 - 20 I believe. Much more widely known by grown ups these days (who were children back then.)

A series that children today STILL know and wear Halloween costumes of (I believe I had two Power Rangers this year).

BOTP/Gatchaman although we feel (and know) is better (and is what Power Rangers were based on I gather) only ran for a few years.

THAT is why they want to bring Power Rangers back and not Gatchaman.

My nephew (age 14) is perhaps a rare kid in that he watched and liked a lot of Power Rangers (despite the cheesy, low-budget effects and, more to the point, the bad acting) when he was ~5-7, but has also seen the whole first series of Gatch, when he was 10. I think I can safely he liked Gatch better! But people can get nostalgic about almost anything...

Allas, they started out good,
kicking ass, fabulous latex/lycra outfits, (all the rage at the gym, without the masks, ((legins and leg warmers)) wonderful doohickys and thingamebobs to fighting evil and who didn't want to be a super hero when they were a kid, but...overkill and same old, same old plot
it was fun for the first few episodes, ..then the same thing over and over and over again

my martial arts classes were never that exiting when I was younger that and the karate kid stance ...I think my sensei use to cringe everytime we did it

again alas..I often perfered to do my homework

LW ... I'll gladly second your petition!! I started watching Power Rangers at the very beginning, hoping to find that same kind of magic I used to find in Gatchaman ... needless to say, the magic wasn't there, and I've quickly stopped watching the show! It didn't make a hit with my kids, either ... bless them!!
